Well some good news and bad news.

Good first. FedEx came to the right house. The bottom case only has one big scratch on it.

Bad news now. The top case, while new, has a number of deep scratches on the top right (looking at the lid closed after use). The battery case is still all scratched. The SuperDrive went untouched and sounds worse now. The mouse button is still not working properly. Waiting for a call back now. I'm not happy at all right now.

Yeah same happened to me...

So get this - I sent my BlackBook in for repair for that random shut down (wasn't that fun) and at the same time the DVD drive would not eject but rather try to eject the disk into the side of the computer just grinding it away...

I left a note in the case when I sent it that speficially said I WANT MY CD BACK - IT DOES NOT EJECT! I even named a text file right under the CD icon on my desktop in all caps stating this problem...

Well when I got my MacBook back they had replaced just about everything in the computer, including my dvd drive - but they didnt send my disc back - it also came back all scratched - I dont remember where it went but I talked to the supervisor at the place and was VERY angry. They said to send it in again to fix the case but in the middle of a college term two weeks without a laptop was not fun and I wasn;t about to do it again...

Unfortunately that sounds all too familiar. Like I said before, I got mine back with an overtightened screw, which cracked the case, a screwed up track pad button after the top case was replaced (only half of it worked), and plenty of nasty scratches and dirt. I know I was very unhappy with the service received, and I let apple know about it. I suggest you do the same, they should be able to help you in getting the problem corrected.

Well, I hope they do something. I'm just in total disbelief that they actually replaced all of the outer casing (except the battery) and managed to scratch it up again! Thats unacceptable.

The system really is in worse shape than when it went out. It went out with two major problems (the spacebar squeaky after awhile of use wasn't that big of an issue). The "SuperDrive" not being able to burn DVDs properly and the discoloration.

It came back with the discoloration gone. But scratched to all ****, the mouse button basically broken, the DVD drive untouched.

Second time it came back with slightly less scratches. New case, but new scratches. Mouse button still broken. DVD drive making worse grinding sounds.

As I said in my email to sjobs@apple.com, I bought a Mac so I wouldn't have to deal with this kind of nonsense any more. At this point its gotten to be just as bad as when I had to deal with HP because of a faulty motherboard. I had to send that system in 3 times (but at least they replaced the DVD drive when there was nothing even wrong with it!) before they finally replaced it.

The person I'm dealing with at Apple now wants pictures of the scratches. My camera's batteries died while I was trying to take pictures and I haven't gone to get new ones yet. I've been busy doing yard work. I'm only taking a break now because I don't feel like taking the risk of getting struck by lightning ;)

When I email her back though... I'm going to tell her its time to start talking replacement and not repair. Flextronics damaged the system twice. They damaged their own repair work! And they have failed to repair what needed repaired, as well as botching another repair that they performed. Even if it does go out for repair one more time, it will definitely reach the "reasonable amount of tries" for a repair under California's consumer protection laws and it'll be time for a replacement or a refund then. If it comes down to that, I might just take the refund instead.

Well, I sent an email to Diana (the woman handling my case at "Executive Relations") telling her its time we start talking about a replacement rather than a repair. If it goes in for repair again and comes back in the same shape, that'll definitely reach California's "reasonable number of attempts to repair the defect". Plus the damage caused by the repair center and then ignored.

Basically the system returning in worse shape than it left in. Twice.

I also let her know that my iPhone is still in the return period.

So we'll see how things go.

No email or phone call yet.

I'll wait 10 minutes before I call. *sigh*

I have to say I'm surprised by all the people who have had problems with Flextronics! Not just with Apple either, but with other manufacturers! It makes you wonder how this company stays in business. People who receive systems back from them can't be happy with the damage.

Probably provide an all in one service for 70% the cost of the closest competition. I love their job posting:

http://flextronics.hrdpt.com/cgi-bin/a/highlightjob.cgi?jobid=4391

"Excellent attendance and flexibility in working hours."

Sounds like a position with high turnover, they must slave drive their staff with unrealistic quotas.

Had to leave a message. I'll wait about half an hour then call her back. I had to be impatient and bother people like this, but..... I think I have every right to be this way at this point.

Heh, navigator, I like that posting.
