The door is open for Microsoft to write a new consumer/business OS from scratch based on the UNIX model if they so wanted. The legacy software question can easily be addressed by releasing it in parallel to the current Windows path like they did with NT and Windows 9x.

Excellent - The key difference is Apple actually uses what its got and focuses on quality *points at his 2000 g4/450 thats still chugging away with iTunes, iPhoto, Photoshop and Leopard *

*hates Windows due to the huge-number of problems its caused me - Im about to go entirely UNIX and Mac. I have 1 machine to convert, then Ill be there *
