Because it's faster to scale current software than rebuild an entire OS. MacOS and iOS will converge sooner than we think, just not immediately. Apple's roadmap includes unification of operating systems coinciding with a time when "the internet of things" will be so common that the phrase will be forgotten.

How nice of Apple to add a favourites weidget for iOS for displaying and proving quite access to favourite contacts. ANNND not give the iPad the ablilty to make a contact a favourite....

We can't even have weather or stocks...

I agree. For me, I use my iPad Mini as my 'main' device and I wish the Health App was available on the iPad.

Yes I wish the health app was available on the iPad as well. I think Apple will add it eventually, maybe with IOS10. Hopefully anyhow.

I kind of doubt it (certainly not with iOS 10), but you never know.

For a while now Apple has thought of the iPhone as the 'hub' of mobile life - everything centers around the iPhone. In their thinking, the phone is the most personal device, always near. For most people it is, and I know I'm a fringe case when it comes to the Mini being my 'main' device.

I remember reading that originally some of those apps weren't on iPad because they didn't like how they looked on the larger screen and pulled them late in the game - but there is no excuse anymore. There is something about these stock apps that Apple has issues with - not available or not available to actually delete (I guess hide in IOS10 but not really deleted)

iPad shows weather above the widgets on the left, but lock screen only (at least as of beta 1)

I can't get that, can you post a screenshot?

Reboot and it should show up. Also make sure you turn on Weather to "Always" in Location Services before rebooting.

I really hope that Apple revamps iOS to run more like a lap top for iPad. I love my iPAd Pro but I feel like it is so limited right now...Haha. It is way to powerful not to be running something more advanced. Haha.

I have a feeling that the iPad is being revamped towards a more "laptop" type iOS. May be another year or two but it just makes sense. With that said I agree that we should have some of the standard features until that day comes.

I would love nothing more than something like Remix OS, but with iOS instead of Android.

I don't understand why the Pro's aren't running something similar to El Capitan

Because OSX was designed for x86 machines with large local storage, wired peripherals, keyboard and mouse input; from an era when there was no social connectivity, and no concept of syncing data across multiple personal devices.

Doesn't sound like an iPad to me.

Seeing as the iPad Pro comes in 128GB and 256GB storage options (32GB is only intended for enterprise), that puts it directly in like the wig MacBook airs and pros...

When using my iMac, it's amazing how much of the U.K. Is similar to iOS. Apple only need to adjust the ui the same way MS with bigger buttons
, and make apps launch in full screen in mission control. Split view would work the same and everything. Would at least be more 'Pro' and more innovative than this mess. iOS was designed for a 3.5 inch phone, not a 12.9 inch tablet.

I'd be thrilled with the calculator app

Me too. I don't understand why Apple doesn't include it on the iPad line as well. They do realize that people do work on their iPads that might require a calculator. I use a calculator on my iPad way more than I do with my iPhone. Maybe with IOS 10.

Download a 3rd part app or use Siri?
