If enough big-name games are exclusive

Exactly, for that to even remotely happen Apple would need to purchase: EA, Activision, Valve, Ubisoft and probably Rockstar. Even if they purchased two of them it is more likely that the competition would just take advantagein the new gap in the market and start to produce new X or Y game, as it's more beneficial to them.
Another point you'd have to consider is that the switching to the Apple/Mac platform would be very delayed so there would be a period when these game companies were churning out games that no one was buying as nobody had a Mac.
Also, you haven't considered the fact that Apple would have to buy out Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft as they all produce consoles. It would be far easier to swap to a console than to a $1000+ Mac.

...and again; derp.

No, Apple would not have to buy all the major game companies; that's just silly talk. Even if they did, that doesn't mean everyone running Windoze is going to throw their PC box in the trash and run out to buy a Mac. Some people still wouldn't switch right away, and others might not switch at all.

Apple only needs to buy EA to give them enough big-name titles under their control to get more Windoze users to switch over. Even more users will follow over time as Apple gains more market share from M$. Once enough of the market is in Apple's court, the other game developers will follow suit.

EA isn't the only option. I just think EA is a good choice and Apple can probably get a better price for a company that isn't doing so well versus one that is.

You are one of the many confused people out there who seem to think that the computer game industry is in competition with the video game industry. Some gamers prefer to play on consoles, and some prefer to play on computers. There are advantages to each that the other doesn't have and won't ever have. I will now quote one of the great posters of MacRumors past.

"Computer gaming is different from console gaming. THERE WILL ALWAYS BE TWO DIFFERENT MARKETS for those games."

this original question is just damn silly. EA seems to work together with Apple for bring more interesting games. but it's only focused on mobile game (ipad, ipod touch, iphone). above that line, it won't happen. game environment won't be changed so much. gaming is still preferred for windows platform. simply mac os x is not built for gaming acceleration. gaming is not just fit for mac os x. some of you maybe disagree with me. but it is true. I don't think that apple will invest to tweak their mac os x for fitting into entire game support. they seem to focus on mobile platform more than that because actually devices (they have sold) have brought tons of profit so far. for a while, Apple won't change its direction. EA won't let itself to get bought by Apple. they are not stupid. it is still one of the biggest gaming companies in the world. mac is not doing well for gaming. even I have used my mac for 15 years, in my experience, I still play favorite games in my PC. why? it can't take advantage of the whole gaming experience. mac actually makes worse.

Btw, the quote I posted above is from a post in early 2006, and oh, gee, wow, looky here: Computer gaming is still around and thriving!

You must be the most uninformed Mac User. If EA is only focused on iPod/iPad Games, then why did they release for Mac: Command & Conquer 3 - Tiberium Wars, Need For Speed - Carbon, Battlefield 2142, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Madden NFL 08, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08, Spore, Spore Creature Creator, Spore Creepy and Cute Pack, Spore Galactic Edition, Spore Galactic Adventures, The Sims 3, The Sims 3 - Ambitions, and Warhammer Online - Age of Reckoning??

Albeit, these games are crappy cider ports, but that is precisely why Apple should buy EA. So that they can release proper native versions of these games and many, many, more!

Gaming is still preferred on Windoze simply because they have the most market share at the moment! Once that shifts, and Apple has more market share than M$, the Mac will then be the preferred gaming platform.

It is completely false that Mac OS X is not fit for gaming. There is absolutely nothing inherently better about Windoze than Mac OS X regarding gaming (of course, there's absolutely nothing inherently better about Windoze than Mac OS X regarding anything).

Imagine if you took all the PC games and rewrote every one from scratch with OpenGL and the Mac OS X frameworks in mind. Then imagine that you get a whole variety of third-party companies and have them take those rewritten games and port them back to Windoze. Then imagine that the Nvidia and ATI give Apple the latest and greatest graphics cards to put in all the Macs. Then imagine that all the Windoze machines out there get downgraded to, at best, the last generation of graphics cards with their original drivers.

Guess what would happen? Oh, my goodness! Could it be? No! …wait, yes! All the Macs would be running those games much, much faster than the Windoze machines. Maybe even 2 or 3 or 4 times as fast!!

Apple is already investing time and resources into tweaking Mac OS X for game support. They just released the OS 10.6.4 update which is rumored to have improved graphical performance and Valve Software's communication with Apple indicated more improvements to graphics drivers are coming.

It may seem like Apple is focusing more and more on mobile devices, but that's not necessarily the case. It's just that the iPhone and iPad are the hot new items compared to the Mac. We haven't heard much new about the iPods recently, but that doesn't mean Apple isn't focusing on them as much. There's a whole team of people at Apple working 10.7 right now, but nothing has been publicly announced yet.

It's certainly not the case that Apple's direction will be focused away from the Mac "for a while", as you say. Valve Software wouldn't be porting Steam and the majority of their library over to the Mac if they thought Apple wasn't focusing on the Mac. Gabe Newell seems like a very smart guy. I don't think he'd be duped if Apple was trying pull a fast one and feigning a focus on Mac Gaming (they already tried that in the past, and he didn't bite).

As to whether its possible for Apple to buy EA, I have no idea. If not, then they should buy another big game company. Stupidity has nothing to with with that, though.

The Mac doesn't make anything worse, it makes everything better!

Just like Cabong, you don't deserve to be a Mac User.
