Well I asked nicely -- twice -- but not the store manager. Anyway, the largest store in North America (Boston) will not do a tradeup beyond the 14 day period.

I'd love that deal but can't get it!

Plus they are just totally sold out anyway.

So despite what the naysayers and party poopers in this thread would like to believe, Apple (or one of their employees) did in fact do the OP a solid. This poster confirms it.

Call the 800 number. You'll get your trade in as long as it's before 30 days. Most likely won't have a restocking fee either.

I was over 45 days on a product I got from Best Buy, and they let me return it. They have been very generous for me with computers too that were way past 14 days. You just have to speak to the right person and be very nice.

Sure they took it back! That's a no brainer. You were going to put an extra $200 into their wallet. Then they'll just sell you 64 GB as a refurb for little below the original price. In fact, what they did, that's magical. But, I'm sure if you showed up asking to exchange your 64 GB WiFi for a 16 GB WiFi, they wouldn't be so accommodating.

Since the start of the iPhone, it has been known that apple gets a cut of iPhone subscription dough from AT&T. This is what kept other companies away. We can agree on that point right?

No, we can't agree on that point.

It was only for the original (2G) iPhone. The profit sharing was dropped with the introduction of the iPhone 3G.

AT&T said:
New Agreement With Apple Reflects Significant Growth Opportunity
The new agreement between Apple and AT&T eliminates the
revenue-sharing model under which AT&T shared a portion of monthly
service revenue with Apple. Under the revised agreement, which is
consistent with traditional equipment manufacturer-carrier
arrangements, there is no revenue sharing and both
iPhone 3G models will be offered at attractive prices to broaden the
market potential and accelerate subscriber volumes.
