Hey guys, I have a M1 MAX 16". I want to know what's in the game dev pipeline for us to get more apple silicon optimized games like baldurs gate 3, WOW, etc. Does anyone know where this info can be found or know of games coming out in 2022?

Baldurs gate 3 is not Apple Silicon game, it uses Rosetta 2 x86 emulation. EDIT: Apparently it has been patched in last July to run native on ARM64 architecture, it wasn't when I was playing it in early 2021.

The only M1 Native games I know of (non-Rosetta or iOS game) are World of Warcraft and Timberborn.

That's what we're trying to tell you. Zip. Nadda. There's really nothing. It's mostly existing games that were updated. There is... absolutely zero game coming out to Mac that is native... unless it's also on iOS. There aren't a lot of games coming to Intel Macs, either. Gaming on Mac is actually even... deader after the release of M1.

There are currently over 250 games marked on Steam as macosapplesilicon. While this isn't a huge amount, the ability to flag them as such has only been available since September 15, and is optional.

For titles released in 2021, there is Timberborn, Crab Game and DYSMANTLE, as well as GRIME and Farming Simulator 2022.

As for what's upcoming, I'm really not sure, Steam's upcoming list is... interesting to go through.
It depends on what you're interested in as well.

While it’s a very small amount it’s not “absolutely zero”

Not true at all. It has supported arm64 native since 1 year ago.

This is not true, BG3 is fully native.
From the Does It ARM site.

But that COULD be old as I doubt they verify every game themselves.

Baldur's Gate 3 shipped as an Intel build with M1 optimised code last year. During this year, the code wsa expanded upon by Larian and by Apple, and an ARM64 native version was uploaded onto Steam, where you had to select whether you wanted to download the Intel version (from Steam) or the ARM64 version (from Larian).

Native M1 support was delayed until beta patch 6, which came out in November 2021.

The video from MrMacRight above is from December last year. He did a follow up in July

You are quoting a video released a year ago… native ARM support was added in patch 5 and Metal support optimized further in patch 6
I remember reading that BG3 was Apple Silicon native or at least a release candidate was out. As they stated that the game needed 10 GB RAM minimum for Apple Silicon, however the plan was to optimise for 8GB.

would seem so...

iirc Humankind is supposed to be getting a native port.

The only communication from Amplitude is that there might not even be a Humankind version that rubs on ARM Macs at all, native or Rosetta. They really dropped the ball on this one. I’ve refunded the game and will wait how the situation develops.

I was quoting a video that someone ELSE provided that said supported their thinking that it was ARM Native. It didn’t.

And, back in July,
“Baldur’s Gate 3 is now available as a native M1 game for Apple Silicon Macs. Even though the game is currently in early access”
Has it been released?

That would be one reason why it’s not updated on the Does It ARM page, because I’d guess they update those when it’s available for general release. Those who want a stable (and, from the video, performant) experience are running the official release which, from what I’ve found, is still going through Rosetta 2.
