Not sure if its a summer thing but when I went down to Bite last week for a set of speakers, the door was wide open and there was a member of staff working permanently in the showroom. Guess they are gearing themselves up for the arrival of Apple, I was amazed at the number of iMacs and macbooks they sold in the short time I was there. I'm told they are trying to set up the music area before the end of the summer. If there is a bit of self promotion going on then good luck to them, they are ging to need it come October!

I wish they would open an apple store in or around newcastle. The metrocentre would be perfect. Maybe they could replace woolworths?

I peered through the crack between the black wall and black door in chapelfield yesterday, there wasn't much work going on, just one guy. The whole place was decked out in plywood, presumably there will be false walls and floor with cables going everywhere. The unit was long, with stairs at the back, but I guess that might be out of sight by the time we are let in.

Anyone who has been to the apple store in Southampton, it looks a similar size.

I thought about taking a pic with my 3GS, but decided that was just too geeky :D

When is it in October? I'm only around the first couple of weeks...
Normally an apple store opening means free apple goodies!!!

hi there,

i was in chapelfield the other day, 15th Sept, and all the hording has been removed, and the front is pretty spectacular, looks similar to tokoyo shop front, stainless steel and BIG sliding glass doors.

also looked like all the big wigs from shopping center and apple were there as well admiring the store. and the glass doors were open and it looks HUGE in there, id say give it 3 weeks and it should open, but knowing chapelfield like to advertise on tv and papers we might find out soon when it is to open.

Peeped through a gap in the door today and saw it is all set up, iMacs along the right hand side all running as normal. Posters on the wall about the iPhone 3GS, looks all ready to go!

Free :apple: T Shirts to the 1st 1000 customers :)

a pc world apple centre is not an apple store. There is no genius', no latest stock, none of the nice things you get in an applestore...

Not that I could see from the back

I got there about 9:45 and there must have been 300 people already in the queue! I had my three month old baby asleep in a sling, glad he managed to stay asleep whilst I queued! He got a T Shirt too :D

It's a great shame that Apple don't have the amount of stores in other countries then the US. For example, my local store is tucked away in a shopping centre in Sheffield and I wouldn't mind but it's quite small and very limited.

I do wish they open more; I do like the buzzing atmosphere they have in their stores and perhaps more people in the UK would get a chance to buy a Mac or just even try one out!

Also, I'm quite surprised that there isn't a store in Dublin (Where I'm from!) which is a shock!

I used to go into Norwich all of the time but then I split with my ex so I didn't really have the need to go anymore.

I visited on Saturday and couldn't quite believe it when I went into Chapelfields and saw the big glowing Apple logo. It seems pretty nice in there. My fiance wasn't too impressed as we was meant to be looking for wedding bands. She was soon playing away with the new MacBooks and the white iPhone's. I was kind of hoping the iPad would be on show, but I guess I was being hopeful!

I did restrain from buying anything and needless to say we both ended up getting 2 lovely wedding bands. The rings are on order for 27 days so I'm thinking maybe seeing the iPad then? Hopefully first I can find out the price and then sell my MacBook, I figured I don't need the MacBook and the MacBook so just going to get the iPad to replace the MacBook as it will suit my needs better.

Open one in Ipswich and that would be the icing on the cake. However, I very much doubt that would happen. Although, I do like that Woolworths idea... Apple could go around and get all the closed Woolworths sites or the closed Zavvi sites, at least put those empty spaces to some good use!

Hi guys, next week is the release of the ipad, do you have any idea where to queue, how many people we should expect? I guess the chapelfield centre opens at 9 like the shop, so better being at the entrance closest to the applestore....
Who is going to queue there, and when? Curious to know...
