I don't get it... I did the same set up (1.8 i7, AppleCare) online with education discount and got the same price as in store.

Edit: Actually... scratch that. My store purchase came to $25 cheaper.

My receipt shows a $150 "Individual Educator" discount. The employee must have keyed in the sale as if I was a teacher? I certainly didn't insinuate in any way that I was teaching. Maybe just a newer employee that doesn't know better?

Where are you guys seeing this $1649???

It is $1599 for the top 13" and $100 more for the Ultimate.

So you get $50 off the $1599 and and $10 more if you BTO.

Go to the education discount on the store, select 11" top end macbook air, upgrade to i7 processor and 256gb hard drive.

This isn't right! If you look at it, it charges you $100 for the Mac App Store gift card and then takes away $100 for it. But the laptop you're still paying in full, because where it says "Saving $100" down there, it's for the gift card.

The Ultimate configuration for me shows it is $1837.00 because there is an 8.25% sales tax for residents of Texas.

This is pretty high, isn't it?

It is right. Mine was $1,661.13 after student discount and taxes, and I also got the $100 gift card. The $100 gift card isn't the same $100 that is knocked off the price.

haha... you're right, and I'm an idiot. Ok, so if you remove the gift card from the store it comes out to $1,675.05, which is slightly more than what I paid in the physical store.

Price Discrepancy on 13" Ultimate MBA

I checked my receipt after seeing this post. There is definitely something funny going on with in-store vs online pricing. I ended up paying $10 less in store than I would have if I ordered online. Below are screen shots of my cart and in-store receipt.
