I know people are annoyed by the gimmick of closing the store down, but now it just feels like a tradition that I really enjoy as it fills me with Apple nostalgia on Steve Jobs keynote days.
Agreed. It's tradition at this point, and also great marketing. The event is still hours away, yet people are talking about the site being down. Other companies would love to have something as simple and iconic as the site going down for every big product release.I know people are annoyed by the gimmick of closing the store down, but now it just feels like a tradition that I really enjoy as it fills me with Apple nostalgia on Steve Jobs keynote days.
Recommend anyone considering new PRODUCT(TM) today not read this book. It’s old anyway.Ever own a Samsung appliance? I have. To the dump they went, within one year of purchase. Never again, in any product category, period. Thankfully, 90% refund due to consumer defect litigation.
They'd lose some money, at least temporarily, I suppose but it's basically nothing when they're about to release a brand new phone and hike the price on it too.I wonder if they actually lose money by doing this. I can't imagine Amazon closing down their whole sales channel just because they have some new stuff to sell a few hours later. What if someone wanted to order a MacBook Air 15" now? They'll probably come back later, I guess, but it'd be annoying.

One of our daughters just moved out, and into a new rent house with some friends. She needed a washer and dryer and paid $400 for Samsung pair (washer is a front loader) and ordered a stacking kit from Amazon ($40), because the closet it went into would only fit a stackable. I tried to dissuade her (I only buy Whirlpool, or Whirlpool-made Kenmore), but she bought them. I told her I don't want to work on them when they break, but I probably will anyway. They're seven years old, and the seller said the only thing he'd replaced was the heating element in the dryer. Roper is a Whirlpool product, BTW.We had all new Samsung appliances in our old house; I was amazed because they lasted 3 years.
Meanwhile, I had a Roper fridge that I hated. NOT because it was trash...but because we wanted some new features and that 20 year old fridge WOULD. NOT. DIE. 😂
Bingo, spot onSame script, different year. The Apple hype begins. Thank you Macrumors for calling it what it is, a marketing tactic indeed.
Yeah I don't know why everyone has their knickers in a knot about it - its just a fun tradition. Pretty sure they don't take it down because Apple's website dev team are sweating bullets trying to update their website, its a tradition in my opinion.Agreed. Well yes but they also put up the advertising for the new items that will soon be for sale in preordering craziness so we can see the info even if not ordering it quite yet LOL More marketing of course…."This is a marketing stunt"
"Apple doesn’t need to shut the store down"
You’re welcome!
Will be looking to compare the 14 ProMax I own with the 15 ProMax to see if I want to continue my iUP program this year or wait til 16 ProMax lineMan, what a salty bunch. Well, looking forward to this event. Here's one reason: go review some uTube videos by photog and videog pros comparing very expensive camera bodies and Red videocams with the iPhone 14 Pro, and how iPhone holds its own against dedicated equipment costing 5x, 10x, even 50x as much. Want to see how much better iPhone 15 Pro is going to be.
I already had a bowl of Lucky Charms. And so it begins. Apple is sprinkling their marketing wonderlust dust around! Hopefully it will be a magical ✨️day?
It would be more noteworthy if MR shut down ahead of launch. LolI'd imagine Apple has done the cost/benefit analysis of this. Look at all the free press/advertising they get when they shut down the store prior to the event. Not even a Super Bowl ad, supposedly the pinnacle of advertising, gets as much news coverage. Just Google "Apple Store Down" and see how many articles there are at the moment. I count at least 12 in the last couple of hours that just come up in the News section. I doubt Apple will ever stop doing it, if they get that much free press every time.
