So today was the big day. Bristol's first Apple Store!!!!!
Lucky for me for not one but two reasons. First I have the day off due to my shift, and second, it's Pay Day.
Oh yesh, the bank account is full and I'm off. I normally have to drive about 35 minutes from Wotton-under-Edge to get to that side of town and I was expecting traffic to be really bad. So I set off at about 9am and was parked ready and waiting by 9:30am - Dammit!!! Had a good run I suppose.
I'd checked the Apple.com site the night before and new the store was opening about an hour after the main opening ceremony for Cabot Circus itself, so I went and had a McDonalds breakie and waited with my friends.
Following on from the main show (oddly titled the "Greatest Show On Earth") I went mental trying to find my way around the guide map they'd given me, only to find out that there was an extra area!!!! So off I ran and as we walked down the alley way I saw a sight I haven't seen since my trip across
America, the shiny Apple Logo on a glass background!!!
So I ran down and tried to get in only to find there was a sectioned off queue especially for the Apple Store. Another Dammit!!! Down I went and joined the queue.
Then Henry came out. You can see Henry in AJO's photo's (above). He the guy in the turquoise T-Shirt against the railing. He was brilliant. Very excited though. He was making the effort to run up and down organising Mexican Waves, and shaking everyone's hands building the excitement. Very good though, well done Henry.
The what they did was the security staff parted the pedestrians with two lines leaving a pathway to the store. And they let a bunch of people in. We could hear the clapping and shouting from the back of the queue. Then the security people created a loop around the people going in and escorted them through the crowd and into the store. This allowed the pedestrians to walk freely again. Every now and then they were stopped and more people were "escorted" in.
Finally I got to go in and I lapped up the clapping, shouting, "high-5's" and everything. It was a brilliant experience, I really enjoyed it, and I 'm so glad to finally see Bristol with an Apple store.
Oh and it's wicked that you can just tell someone what you want, they log into the nearest iMac or MacBook and book it for you, then someone brings it to you and they whip out a credit card machine from their holsters. All in all a brilliant experience.
Loving your work Apple.
and thanks to AJO for the pics, great work.
EDIT:
I was that inspired I'm now the proud owner of an Apple TV box and a PRODUCT (RED) iPod Nano. Get me hey!!
