either to express ourselves or because we think we look good this way. Half the clothes I own I chose because I look like a doll in them… it's expressionism, it's done for ourselves not for anyone else. Most of the time I try not to be noticed! many people react violently or obnoxiously to the way I dress. There's no good reason to draw attention to yourself in this manner.

Jim, I think you mean well, and I know you're a nice person in other threads, and I don't want to help turn this into another debate thread, but I gotta disagree with you too. Saying that is like saying that all women who wear short skirts or show cleavage are inviting you to stare at their thighs or their breasts.... It's probably true that some of them do it for just that reason. But applying that to everyone who does it isn't accurate or fair. There are so many other reasons why people express themselves in the way that they do.

And also, people may sometimes want attention for certain aspects of who they are, and other times, not, depending on who they're around, their comfort level, and so on...say you own a Red Sox baseball cap. You might have worn it recently because your team just broke the curse and you want all your friends who are baseball fans to notice your love for the Sox. But is that the reason you wear it every single time you wear it? Sometimes, maybe you just put it on for shade, because its good for that too.

I don't think it's so simple as to draw such a generalization. If MentalFabric says he didn't want attention from random strangers for the way he dresses, I believe him. And if he does want attention from *us*, to share his Mac-love, that's a different thing.

BTW, Ani, I love how you love femmy boys. That's so hot. :p :D

To be an individual? (which really isn't too true, since no matter what you do, you're just conforming to another group).

Why is not blending in and being yourself a bad thing?

If by your same logic that he dresses that way to get attention, are you telling me you dress the way you do to purposely *not* get attention?

When you wake up and get dressed, or when you buy clothes, do you purposefulyl seek out the least-attention getting items?

I doub't it. You dress the way you do because you like the clothes you're wearing. It's entirely no different for him or anyone else.

Ok, I doubt any of us are psychologists and are able to analyze human intent to the point of consciousness and sub-consciousness. I can not rationalize why someone would dress that way if they didn’t care what other people though of them. To be comfortable it a totally inward trend, but putting on mascara and Halloween costumes is an act I cannot construe other than attention-wanting. Let’s argue some more.

When did I speak ill of dressing for attention? I dress normally, not frumpy but I wear what's comfortable easy.

You see them as halloween costumes, I see them as attractive and expressionistic. The fact that you can't rationalize something doesn't mean that others can't. And please, let's not argue, that sounds aggressively toned, debate sounds more reasonable :)

The most important point in your "arguement" is that you disagree, and therefore think he is wrong.

You're flaming someone based on personal bias and assumptions that carry no weight other than being judgemental opinions.

He dresses the way he does because he wants to. Since when is your logic, reasoning, and what you think part of his agenda?

Just because you think he's trying to get attention doesn't mean that's the case.

You may think fruity pebbles goes good with A1 steak sauce - but again, that doesn't make it so.

The number of reasons people do things are just as numerous as people themselves.

That part was sarcastic. I really don't like to argue, it's just I can't stop once I start. I understand you're expressing yourself, though I don't fully understand your medium.

Think of it as characters in a play, dressed to play roles - similar to actors, many people dress to express the role they're playing :)

*bites lip * been there done that...either each to his own, and to be honest the way you dress isnt out of the ordinary for London. I kinda get where Jim is coming from, you start a 'look at me' thread and when a few people retort 'yeah so what?' or 'why?' you take an indignant posture. I personally think it takes guts to dress the way you do, wouldnt like to be in your shoes in certain parts of the north on a Saturday night....but that would be their ignorance. Have I got a point? Not really. Except bear in mind that most members are within throwing distance of being 40 and have probably pushed the boundaries of mainstream fashion/culture in their teens.
David Bowie was a superfreak when he was younger, look at him now not far from a Paul Smith clone.
Do what you do, enjoy it, don't mix your drugs and enjoy it while it last....it flies by, faster than you can imagine. aaahhh youth ;)
