Apple Stores really DO have them in stock today (Sat)

Just an FYI..

I had what I'd consider a "normal" shopping experience yesterday. Went to AT&T Store, got on line. They said they'd have enough to service the line up to my point. They didn't. Ended up ordering the phone through AT&T (should come in a week).

Checked out the Apple site this morning. Every last store had phones available. Surely that couldn't be true. Called up the store. "We get shipments daily." Hmm. Went to the Apple Store at my mall at 9 AM (an hour before the mall officially opens). Apple Store was open. Walked in -- NO LINES -- went straight to the cashier and bought a phone in less than 5 minutes. On my way out I got a "congratulations" from employees (nice touch) and even had a chance to peruse cases. What a vastly different experience.

So, moral of this story: if your local store says it has them -- IT HAS THEM. Go pick one up if you can.

Yeah, I checked out the stock checking page, and all stores are green lights. I was worried for a moment there. I thought maybe Apple didn't sell out yesterday, but if they're getting daily shipments, that's good news.

So, get yours today!

Yeah, I stood in line at the AT&T store last night after work with the bosses. Sold out of 8GB by the time we got in. They went to the Towson store and got theirs. I went to the Columbia store and got mine. No wait, no hassle. Walked right in and got one.

same experience. Att sucked - made me (and about 50 others) queue for hours even though they knew they didn't have enough. Went to apple store this morning in new York and picked one up with no queue. Kinda glad: att don't get my money! Well, not the first chunk anyway!

Went to the AT&T store on Fairfax Circle this morning to just look at the iPhone. How dumb of them not to even have ONE for demo. It was suggested that I go on the web and check out the videos if I wanted to see how the phone works. And was told I would have to order one that would be in 2 to 3 days.

So drove over to Apple Tysons. Played with one of their demos for a few minutes. Soon after I was in a short line to get my 8GB iPhone.

My boys and I drove by the Apple Store at Cocunut Point in Estero, FL last night at 5:45. There were about 300 people lined up. We went over to California Pizza Kitchen to eat then walked over and right in to the Apple Store at around 6:30. There were like 40 iPhones to demo. It was a zoo. Damn cool phone. Had to leave without one though. I'm gonna wait for the second iteration.

I went to and Apple store last night at 8pm local and there wasn't any line at all and plenty of stock (probably hundreds).

Yet all the ATT stores seems got limited amounts.

I don't know, somehow not having to push people out of the way diminishes the experience. I should have gone earlier.

My nearby AT&T store had two fully functioning iPhones for demo but ran out of the 60 they got. Placed an order last night with them. Now the apple store has plenty in stock. I called AT&T store to cancel it but they said that once it is processed they can not cancel it. They asked me to bring it back without opening and they will refund everything I paid. That is not too bad.

I posted this earlier but last night at 7:30-8 pm at the Southlake Apple store there maybe 30 people in the store (more employees I think) and two cops. No line and very few sales and PLENTY of phones. No line to play with one and the line to purchase had nobody in it. Earlier there had been a line of maybe 75-100 folks but the were quickly taken care of (apparently). The Apple staff I know were surprised at how FEW sales were going on and were debating whether or not to even stay open late. . .

Not sure what is going on here. . .

If you look at it from a component perspective, they're actually fairly similar. The difficulty in producing something does not necessarily increase with the size of the final product.

I do not know the margin numbers, but Apple is making a good chunk of gross profit on each phone plus a share of the monthly revenues from AT&T. The latter part is hearsay and needs to be confirmed. On the phone I am sure they make a pretty gross profit ( price - cost of goods sold). Net profit ( gross - amortized R&D and other marketing and sales expenses ) is a different story. For that we will have to wait until Apple reports quarterly earnings.

I hear you. So far I haven't opened mine yet. Still following threads about any issues. But from what I saw at the Apple Store today I am willing to live with the iPhone for the next two years.

The only thing that will tick me off is if they add GPS to the next iPhone in the next 6 months. Since a cell phone is my only phone, having GPS is needed IIRC for E911 service.

Either the iPhone is not selling as well as planned - or Apple knew how to plan for the demand. Will be interesting to hear about how many iPhones have been sold in the first week....

Not really. I understand and support your development costs of a game system. But companies like Apple knew that they needed to build and stock pile inventory before the actual launch date in order to have the best experience for their customers.

Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo should look at the iPhone as a template for their future product launches. At least here in the DC area, when could I ever have been able to go into a store the day after a product launch and walked away with the hot new game system? I did that today with an iPhone at 11AM at the Tysons Apple Store....

So it is Saturday and they have plenty of iPhones in stock, but whatever you do, DON'T GO VISIT YOUR APPLE STORE!!!! It did and now I'm out $600! Grrr, what frustration!
