BTW, congratulations ITsamsamsam on having a desk with actually some room for writing and displaying reference materials. Very refreshing after looking at mostly cramped desk layouts recently.

I was actually very very close to going this route, especially since the M1 iMac is cheaper than the studio display. But having 2 M1 iMacs on my desk next to each other seemed kind of crazy to me so I went Studio Display instead.
Wow never really thought of this. But yeah how much performance or usability are you giving up by using Universal Control and/or AirPlay 2 via a base-model M1 iMac? Cause you're saving at least $400 going this route.

So my Studio Display with height adjustable stand is ever so slightly crooked ...

Long story short, I actually bought both the tilt only version and the height adjustable version. When comparing them back to back, my eyes felt like the height adjustable monitor was slightly crooked. Especially when placed right in front of some wall mounted lights I have that are very level.

This was picked up from an Apple store so I know it didn't get banged up by UPS to my place. Did some searching around and I guess the new 24" iMac has suffered from a few crooked builds too.

So I busted out the rulers and yep, it's indeed a tiny bit crooked and wasn't just my table. Normally I can maybe live with imperfections but, for a $2,000 display where build quality is one of the major selling points, I'm sending it back to Tim Apple. Also the tilt only monitor is indeed perfectly level. Good times.
Crooked adjustable stand here too. I could see the slope as soon as I put it on my desk. 8-10 weeks shipping time for replacement is beyond frustrating

Ireland has Apples European HQ but not one Apple Store. It’s like they only came here for the tax benefits :)
ahhhh I would go a bit crazy. Can you still use the old one until the new one comes or do you need to send it back right away?

waiting to hear back on a return exception so I can hold onto crooked one until the replacement arrives. Fingers crossed. I think 10 weeks wait would push me towards full refund and a different monitor

If Center Stage isn't working at all on your ASD, something is wrong. What type of Mac is it connected to? Is it running MacOS 12.3? Is the ASD running firmware 15.4?
Thanks. Inexplicably (and embarrassingly), no I wasn't on 14.3... I am now and I have CS. The picture still looks like a VGA cam from the 90's with vaseline on it, but at least CS works....

Can’t imagine paying $400 more for a crooked stand. I wish Apple can sort it out for you.

I still use 27 inch Apple Cinema Display with 2013 Mac Pro. I ordered the thunderbolt 4 to thunderbolt 2 adapter to use with an incoming Apple Studio computer.

Apple studio monitor would get the USB camera and Mic off my desk, and do 5k. Any real news of them helping out the ”poor” camera complaints I am hearing?

Also, how heavy is this display? I had VESA adapter for the Cinema, but it was too heavy for most arms.

Another point I didn't notice prior to today. This monitor is thick, yes, but it's good to hold when I was moving it around. I also moved the 27 inch iMac yesterday and the bottom edge cuts into my hand and I felt painful moving it.

The display itself is about 12 pounds. Pretty light.

For those who have ASD shipped from Apple. How long did the shipping take?

I was quoted delivery for March 24 to 31 and my credit card was booked on the 24th.
It's almost 29th now. The online status is still "Preparing to Ship".

Where does yours ship from? If from China, it looks highly unlikely that I will get mine in time.

Depends, I know in the UK mine was 'shipped' from a local distribution centre, and not China directly... it arrived next day.

I had these options when I first got the ACD. I did a restart to get the correct display settings back. Also, have you installed the firmware update? After my restart I was also prompted to install.
Does the ASD have these reference modes even? Mine never showed them.. I have it attached through a thunderbolt 4 hub though..

Hopefully they come through. I was lucky enough to find one on launch day at the Apple Store and it is perfectly level. I have a VESA mount nano-texture display on order but I might just keep the height-adjustable standard display.
