Got any Apple stuff laying around that's never used, or is there an 'Apple graveyard' at your work for older equipment?

I've been wondering lately just what the heck the company I work for does with the mountains of old equipment that collects after several upgrade cycles. These pics are just a small portion of it that I managed to photograph today. I swear, they've got tons of this stuff in various stashes, including a 'wall' of discarded G5s, Minis, and early Intel MacPros.

I'm sure most of it will get donated to charity ...eventually.

why not ebay them? A lot of that equipment still fetches nice amounts of cash.... yet they still depreciate by the day. Not very prudent of whomever is in charge of surplus.

Man,I could really use a 23" Apple display and a few of those white apple keyboards.still using G4 Pro keyboards here.And I need a apple display for my G4 PowerMac.

This thread was clearly going to go in a different direction.

That said, I wouldn't mind taking one of those iMacs or a Mac mini. Would bring back memories. :D

If it were my stuff I'd gladly donate/sell/give it all away- but it's not mine or my decision what's done with it.

I know in the past the company has donated a ton of stuff to charity, but I have no idea why this particular stuff just sits there. Probably some BS corporate policy at some level.

I'm sure that they wouldn't notice you smuggling one of those iMacs out for someone ;)

But you should confront them on what they are going to do with them. Perhaps a bonus to everyone who works there - a free mac or mac peripheral. Or not.

While they're just sitting there, they might be counted as inventory that still has some value on paper. The usual response from management is that it's actually cheaper to just throw them away than giving (or even selling) them to people. Red tape...

So the donating them to charity or letting a certified recycler throw them away are often the only economically feasible solutions on a larger scale.

This is probably as close to the correct answer that will be found. Especially if it's a corporation you work for with lots of bureaucracy. I interned for a while at a political consultancy company. They were using 'hundreds of thousands of pounds' worth of ancient computer equipment as collateral on loans to pay for their new computer infrastructure. The equipment was worth much less than it said on paper, but evidently during boom times the banks didn't care.
