Oh, I've been waiting for someone to make a nice, serious adaptation of this.

But a bit ambivalent...

I tried to like Foundation, as I enjoyed some of the books back in the day, the series is mediocre, IMO.

So Apple - or rather Roland and Dillard, with the former's involvement on Fringe making me sceptical - needs to step up to make this good...

Crossing finger for more season based on Count Zero, Mona Lisa Overdrive, and maybe even some based on short stories and even new stuff from William Gibson, himself; that would be awesome...

I found the Character damn good, the AI hotel, technology, violence - yeah Ihit fast forward sometimes, but in the ned I loved the movies nad watched them several times ...

But like the Expanse, SciFi doesn't seem to attract enough viewers. But I'm glad to seem good movies like Cowboy BeBop. Just the Apple logo doesn't go hand in hand with cyberpunk.
Haven't seen The Expanse yet... hadn't even heard of it!! What did you think?

I love sci fi, but there's not a terribly great amount in cinemas or on TV I've loved. Books seem to do a better job for me. So much on TV seems to be rubbish...

I can't judge Foundation as the first few episodes were so slow that my partner didn't want to watch any more. I liked the books.

The early episodes of Altered Carbon I really enjoyed... though I'd disagree about the AI hotel. That was the worst thing about the show for me. Would have been fun for one episode or brief background stuff, but it took up so much screen time.

Wonder how Chris Cunningham is feeling right now

Very probably doesn’t care a bit. I met him a few times. Nice guy but super flakey. I wouldn’t have trusted him to complete a long form project!

I saw some of the imagery he had for Neuromancer, but nothing specific or exciting to report. He hasn’t done anything really for 10 years, even then it was stuff for his now ex-wife‘s band.

I‘ll ask a friend who does know him personally what he’s up to now!

Expanse is very good. Bit of an abrupt ending… for various reasons, but the following book time jumps like 30 years so the actors were all wrong.

Foundation is awesome. I had the same issue. Too dense and confusing for the wife :)

Pretty much my sentiments exactly. Neuromancer is one of my all time favorite novels, and that alone will probably set me up for disappointment. Hopefully they will stay true to the story; the literary license taken with Foundation took the series to the point where it barely resembled the novel, and I eventually lost interest.

FWIW, I was a huge fan of Bladerunner, and thought Bladerunner 2049 was a worthy sequel.

So happy the rumors were true! If it’s as good as Foundation’s been, this should be a treat. Can’t wait to learn more about the cast. 🦾😎

Meaning it will bear no resemblance to the William Gibson novel by that name. It'll be like Foundation. They'll tell a completely unrelated story, in a cyberpunk world. They're basically paying a lot of money to trick people into watching their one story, only they know if they'd just marketed it as an original story and allowed people to judge it on its merits, no one on the planet would want to see it.

Instead, they'll make something horrible and blame the viewers for being toxic.

Peter Jackson understood it when he made LOTR, and the people making Dune now are mostly understanding it: people loved these stories for their stories. They don't love these stories but think "Man, if it were only totally different. I hope someday someone makes a move that changes everything about this story. I'd go watch that a thousand times."

Give this the love they have given Foundation, and I am in. Just love the scope and scale of Foundation. Amazing production, and a great demo of the advantage of a series over those 2 to 3 film adaptations for the theater. Films just can’t invest in the same type of world-building as a well-done series.

Finally. Was hoping someone would eventually do this or Snow Crash, which was stuck in development hell at HBO before the merger.

I never finished the book. I am looking forward to seeing how they follow the story. Snow Crash would be a good one, although it might come off like Ready Player One a little.

After Foundation I don't trust Apple adaptations to hold true to source material. They told a completely different story with completely different characters. The only similarities were names and places.

As long as they don't randomly decide to re-write it so the main character commits suicide at the end of series 1 then a few months laster quietly cancel the show, which is how Amazon treated viewers of their William Gibson adaptation "The Peripheral".

Amazon is already going down a bad path with their original series. I don't know what suddenly went wrong with production over there, but they are now pulling a lot of weird stunts like this.

For example apparently season 2 of Invincible is done, but they are deciding to withhold the second half of the second season until an unspecified future date. Likely because they are going to start showing ads unless you pony up even more money, and wanted to wait until then.

I would have love to see this trilogy filmed by the producers of "the Expanse" or "Altered Carbon".
Hopefully Apple doesn't remove sexuality or violence from all scenes ....

Please Apple, don't brand the Ono-Sendai deck with an Apple logo.
Nah. They'll just change the Ono-Sendai interface to Siri while Case is wearing a Vision Pro. It'll be very subtle 🤣

Probaly it will be just another woke-salad loosely based on name of said novel just like Foundation show is.
That wasn't even my problem with it.

Foundation is mainly people talking. It has very little action and absolutely ZERO sex. It is NOT action sci-fi. It is psychological with mysteries, manipulation, and satisfying reveals. But, the biggest mystery of the entire story, the location of the Second Foundation, is not even a thing in Apple's version.
