Won't happen....
Zuckerberg is going to hang on to it. He's in love with Facebook and will hang on to it for as long as he possibily can. The only thing I can see happening is that OTHER shareholders of the company sell there shares to someone.

Zuckerberg even refused IPO for another 2 years or so.

I think it's all about control for him and he's not going to let it go.

Microsoft owns a portion of and is already integrating with Facebook. That might pose a problem for Apple. If there is any truth to the Social Network, Zuck won't want to be bought out. That said, I can't think of who would be better at taking Facebook where it needs to go next. On second thought, Google is who would be best for FB, but they're doing their own social network. I will say this though, the manipulative nature of the design of FB alone points to the minds there being a good fit for Apple.

Makes no sense what so ever unless you want to keep a competitor from buying.

Even then. Without a solid business plan for making profit, it's not worth a premium price just to keep it from the competition. Now, I'm sure Apple could find something productive to do with it, but that doesn't change the fact the deal has no basis in common sense.

Unless they implement a wildly successful strategy, I think Facebook will die out after a while. Too spammy, without any real substance.

What if Apple went Social with its iLife Suite + iTunes' Ping? Kinda like a massive Social MobileMe.

iWeb lets you make a page.

iPhoto choose what photos you share on that page and capture other people's shared photos. Comment on these photos on the iWeb page.

Share the music you've made with Garageband, or collaborate on a song with friends at any corner of the globe, right on your page.

With Ping, anybody viewing your page could listen to ANY of your music tracks. They couldn't have them, but they could listen...

Share your iMovies with your friends or team up to make a web blockbuster. Apple could have their own YouTube of sorts.

FaceTime anybody on the service thru your pages.

All of this stuff is possible already, but not in one place. Apple could do the end-to-end user experience they're known for. Who needs Facebook, YouTube, Flickr, or the like when Apple can do it all for you on a set of hardware made specifically for the task?

Facebook was a lot nicer back before they started add all that crap to it. I like it better when it was college students only and you needed to have an EDU address to get on it.

The only thing you could do was poke someone else and they did not have all those stupid apps on it.

Now it is open to everyone and pure spam.

I agree. I think the "apps" have driven it in the wrong direction. Twitter had a rash of those a year ago and i stopped using it for a while because every third tweet was about some stupid social game. It drives up your traffic numbers (and bad traffic at that) but, there again, has no substance whatsoever.
