ATV Flash includes everything right off the bat. No need to monkey around with Terminal.

Terminal = :(

ATVFlash costs money (as does Patchstick.ca), ATVUSB-Creator does not. ATVUSB-Creator was made by the same developer who made the bootloader all Patchsticks (ATVFlash, Patchstick.ca, etc) use. ATVUSB-Creator is also blessed by all the ATV plugin dev's (XBMC, Boxee, nitoTV, CouchSurfer, Sapphire, ATVFiles, etc.) as well.

ATVUSB-Creator installs the Launcher for XBMC and Boxee as well as SoftwareMenu for the plugin's. And in it's Settings you can also toggle on/off the ATV Update Checker.

Creating the Patchstick (Mac & Win) is all done via a GUI and using the software is also via a GUI, no terminal required.

Word. No brainer.

This is what I use. The software can be kind of buggy, esp. if you choose to update Apple's firmware. It may require some monkeying around to get all things running smoothly. However, it is free, and with a little patience, generally works fairly well.
