How can you say the iPad is a failure
You can't even order one yet for God's sake

How can the iPad be a failure before it's even available to pre-order??

I don't believe the others to be "failures" (especially the MBA), but I don't have the stats handy.

And really, the Macbook Air isn't a FAILURE, that product was never meant to be a mainstream hit. I'm certain apple didn't say "We're going to release this and EVERYONE will buy one." They said "Look at this luxury item, and look at what it's capable of."

Apple TV never really had a clear market, but it's also far from a failure.

And the iPad is going to be a hit, no matter what the disappointed think. Fact is that it's cheap, and let's people check their facebook and twitter quite capably.

That ALONE will buy millions in the teen crowd.

Not to mention the games that will be on it/are already playable on it. So saying it's a failure on day 3 or 4 after it's ANNOUNCEMENT is bullox, and I'll go as far as to say you have failed, not Apple.

I am not sure that qualifies as an accurate frame of reference

It is not a product for everyone
It has a target demographic as well

Correct, it is only you.

I live in a relatively Apple friendly City, Ann Arbor. I personally know about 7 people who have a Macbook Air, ranging from one of my professors to my father. And he's not even a tech savvy guy, he just liked the feel of it, so he went for it.

i guess the iphone is a failure too?

and the :apple:tv is a hobby apple could care less.

and the air is meant to be portable

just cause a product is useless to you doesnt mean its a failure.

i mean look at you. no one likes you, you are useless to them. does that mean your a failure?

Now that you mention it, I've never seen a MacBook air outside a retail shop either. The MBA also hasn't had a decent update for a while, maybe apple have forgotten it.

If they threw in a disc drive, I'd be all over it for my next laptop upgrade.

The iPad is Apple's biggest failure to date, I mean, I haven't held it in my hands yet, but I can see it clearly just by looking at the product page, that there is nothing on that device that will let Apple sell them more than 240 million of them in the next eight and a half years.

It will only sell maybe a dozen or two dozen of millions in the next two to four years, but what is that? I mean Microsoft sells more Windows in less than a tenth of that.

A CD/DVD drive is the only thing stopping you from getting a MBA? They sell standalone drives for $100. All MBAs come with software you can install on another computer (Mac or PC) and use that computer's drive to install software on your MBA.

All these threads about the failure of the iPad are getting ridiculous. The average person is really hyped for the release of the iPad. Power users and Apple fanboys, like those found on MacRumors, are the only ones making a huge deal about this upcoming failure. How about we let the product come on the market for at least a month and then decide its fate?

I agree with everything you have said. However, the lack of Flash kills half of the apps on Facebook. They may end up being a problem.

The geeky feature-checklist type analysis of the iPad is precisely the same kind of analysis that lead to predictions of failure or irrelevance for the iPhone and iPod. Apple does have occasional missteps, but Apple's entire business model over the last 10 years has been based on its deep understanding of how to build devices that, instead of matching geek feature checklists, are fun to use and are precisely targeted at real-world use cases. Apple is very good at this, and frankly people should know by now that just because they don't quite understand what Apple is thinking with a new product, does not mean that what Apple is thinking is wrong or stupid.

I see your point, but a "Smart" facebook app developer would recode their app for the appstore, and sell it for profit. Not only would people LOVE to get down with their Farmvilles on an iPhone or iPad, they'd probably throw down .99 or even 1.99 for what they could get for free on a laptop or desktop.

Word Ace has sort of done this, though it's a free app. I'm sure there are others, but don't forget that Adobe has a program for converting flash apps to be iPhone compatible coming out.

I'm surprised they haven't done it yet. Farmville would be a top grosser for sure.

:apple:tv failed cause all it can do is play iTunes content.

No netflix, hulu, no Dvr no nothing.

Apple wants the ipad to be the same (only able to play iTunes content).

I'm only a apple fan for their stable OS and pro apps.

But there consumer products are far too limiting, why should I have to hack all my apple stuff to add features that should be there in the fist place. They are worse than m$ when it comes to this.

the whole idea behind flash is that it's OS independent like Java. no need to code for every different platform. and it doesn't lock anyone in because all you do is install a plugin to view flash content
