I just don't get it

I'm trying hard to understand why all the hatred for a product? It hasn't even been released and all I'm reading is about how much of a failure it is. If it's not a fit for you then don't buy it but that doesn't mean it's a fail! Sure, I don't like the fact that there's no multitasking or flash (I'm surprised at how many sites I visit that use flash), but still it's a good fit for the things I want it to do.

The iPad failed already? Damn that was fast, the poor thing did not even get a chance to be released. I guess Apple will go back to the drawing board. I was really hoping to pick one up to.

I agree that it depends on how you define "failure."

But I don't think the Macbook Air is definitely not a failure in any sense.

I'll be getting an iPad

Well, I feel better after reading some posts from more reasonable people. I came to this site to get some information because I'm excited about the iPad. Despite all the negative responses, I'll be getting one. Yes, it's not perfect but no product is and this one looks damn close. Besides, I'll get at least a good year of use out of it before something better comes along. (Either a new version from Apple or a competitor.) I don't think the iPad is for everyone but it's a start in the right direction. Despite what people say, I think this is a big step toward the future.

The Apple TV was estimated to sell 6.6 million units by the end of 2009.

And supposedly the Air accounts for roughly 20% of their laptop sales.

I guess it all depends on one's definition of a failure. Are they the original Macintosh? No. But they are still being sold for a reason.

To say the iPad is a failure without it actually being available is silly.

I have a feeling that the iPad will sell millions upon millions, just like the iPhone and iPod touch. But that is my humble opinion.

By comparison, the Kindle is estimated to have sold 2.4 million units in 2009.

As I've stated before, the iPad will be in the spotlight for several months just like the MacBook Air and then fizzle UNLESS Apple updates it to hold a REAL browser.

I enjoy good products, not just Apple products. The iPad is limited and very obviously built with enlarging Apple's monopolizing demeanor. Apple "fanbois" don't get it. Closed OS will fall, even if it's from Apple, over time. Users want options. Imagine if MacBooks couldn't run FireFox.

The Macbook Air is somewhat a failure IMO because its form factor should have been applied to the Macbook Pro instead. If the Air had a 14.4 -15 inch screen and larger hardrive I would have bought it.

I've seen maybe 1 in the wild....since the release

And that is obviously all the proof we need...

For reference, being in a creative technologies building at uni, I've seen several photography students with MBAs, I guess the portability is good for any post processing on the go. Whilst that's not an accurate representation that it is definitely selling well, it shows Apples sold more than one.

you have plenty of options. buy an iPad, buy a real laptop, buy a crappy netbook, or buy nothing.

and i live without firefox. it's great! (typed on a macbook air)

why can't people accept things for what they are? MBA wasn't made to be big. it was made to be thin and light. you can't have everything in every product. that's why they sell regular laptops (which are actually cheaper than the MBA).

when the day comes that they take the MBP and use the MBA form factor (getting rid of the DVD drive) the bitching will be intense! can't wait.

Apple TV 1.0 (F)
Oustanding frequency of crashes and sync issues.
Erasure of content arbitrarily.
Unaffordable and antiquated model for TV Show viewing.

Apple TV 3.0.1 (C)
Improved Bonjour syncing and reduced crashing significantly.
Added rental of Movies.

Macbook Air Rev. A (D)
Significant heat problems.
Underpowered (netbook) and overpriced.
PATA HDD and no graphic capabilities.

Macbook Air Rev. C (A-)
Major CPU, SSD/HDD, and graphic improvements.

Apple iPad Rev. A (C)
Ten things missing especially iSight.
Rip-off for 3G chip, misleading customers with monthly data.

Apple iPad Rev. B (A-)
I'd like to imagine it will be akin to 2G to the 3GS.
Possible enterprise model available 2011.
Apps that fully utilize the product. (recall how long it took for Byline, Tweetie 2 to appear)

Closed OS will fall, even if it's from Apple, over time.

Last time I checked, all of Apple's OS's can run third party software. If Apple wants to check all the software first to make sure it won't destabilize the system, I'm all for it.

And really, the Macbook Air isn't a FAILURE, that product was never meant to be a mainstream hit. I'm certain apple didn't say "We're going to release this and EVERYONE will buy one." They said "Look at this luxury item, and look at what it's capable of."

Apple TV never really had a clear market, but it's also far from a failure.

And the iPad is going to be a hit, no matter what the disappointed think. Fact is that it's cheap, and let's people check their facebook and twitter quite capably.

That ALONE will buy millions in the teen crowd.

Not to mention the games that will be on it/are already playable on it. So saying it's a failure on day 3 or 4 after it's ANNOUNCEMENT is bullox, and I'll go as far as to say you have failed, not Apple.

i am sick of this; saying its cheap and lets you tweet and face book ?? iphone is cheaper and let you do the same, you can slap it in your pocket, you can make phone calls and it has a camera

wow,

love the extreme views you get on the net. :D

So I have apple TV connected to a lcd on the bedroom wall. Really great for watching movies or tv shows in bed. That's why I bought it, that's what it does. So for me a big success.

Got a Macpro beast and wanted a really light laptop for travel. I bought an Air. Works great for surfing, iwork and even a bit of photoediting. Again a big success for me.

Will I get a Ipad? Not sure as i have an Air but I do think apple have moved the tablet market on a bit and if it inspires other better products or indeed a ground breaking ipad 2.0 then good on them.

My point? No one person can say something is a total failure or total success unless it is just an opinion not a fact.

Best Regards

Josh

Regular people don't care. See game consoles, etc. Generally developers don't even care; they just care if they can do interesting things and make money, and this platform, with its new possibilities for UI and with the app store and related infrastructure, should be great for both.

The only people who really care are people who have ideological opinions about computer platforms. Mull over the phrase "ideological opinions about computer platforms" and think about how many people that might actually apply to, once you leave the Internet computer forum bubble. I doubt most people would even understand how it was possible to have ideological opinions about computer software.

Not being able to use all of facebook, myspace and hulu will mean this iPad will fail once it's in consumers hands.

I was drooling over it, credit card in hand until I saw Steve on the NYT site with no flash. Gameover. No flash makes it trash.
