Good shows like this need to be preserved on a physical release

As far as quality, 1080p on disc is barely a step down from typical 4k streaming.....aside from Apple. But even then....the bitrate of 4k streaming on the high end is in the 20MBPS range vs native 1080p on disc being in the 30-40 range.

As far as sound, a disc is gonna blow away the garbage quality of streaming if you have a proper surround system.
I have found 4K doesn't always mean better. Then again, I don't think shows like this really benefit from 4k

It’s because of pirating. It’s the same reason why any show you download to watch later from a streaming service is only 1080p. Downloads have a higher bitrate than when streaming so potentially if a 4K download was available it would make for high quality pirated version on the seas. You can stream in 4K but only download in 1080p. Reason 10,897 why we can’t have nice things.
You realize we can just pirate the 4k streams, right?

Wait, you actually thought we needed to wait for a "download" version of something to pirate it? LOLNO

What kind of Bluray remaster that only gives you 1080p and (assumingly) lowly SDR? What kind of movies that has a much better quality for streams rather than 100GB physical disks? LOL

Another key is Dolby Vision. After watch so many movies and shows with HDR, I do think it's a bigger impact than mere resolution. I'd rather watch 1080p HDR nowadays rather than 4K SDR (don't make much sense but I've seen a few titles with HDR but not 4K). As for bitrate, I think Apple TV+ has the nicest stream compared to Netflix or Disney. So this Bluray release doesn't make sense at all. I'd rather buy it as separate iTunes purchase.

I do have a decent AV receiver and again, TV+ streams is great with both 4K Vision and Atmos.

You do realize that the 4K compressed stream is worse than 1080p Bluray. lol
y'all can disagree and get sad all you want but it's a common know fact and exactly why there are ZERO 4K downloads.

But you didn't get a charger because of the environment, hope that's ok? 💚

Still so weird how none of Apple's TV+ content is available on iTunes. And now they release a disc copy? Feels like the TV+ team is completely separated from the rest of Apple, and there's zero cohesion/synergy/ecosystem, which is what Apple used to be known for.

TBH, I think this is Apple helping people find ATV+. I know a number of people who want to watch Severance and Ted Lasso, and thought they needed an actual AppleTV or at least an iOS device. The comically bad naming of the service is limiting adoption of people who want to watch the shows.

Blu Rays? I remember those! In fact I still have a few Blu Ray disks somewhere, I think. Just no way to play them.

Great! Counting pixels!! Otherwise watching this consumes more than 8GB of memory on a brand new MacBook?

It’s better than nothing or DVD, but please release a 4K HDR blu-ray, too.
I disagree, this is a pointless release. Releasing on a 1080p format, in 2024, is a step back from the very well done 4K DV stream. NOTHING that is available for streaming in 4K DV/HDR/HDR10+ should be released in 1080p SDR today.

Agree that it needs a UHD release.

I really hope they release more on physical and also digital purchase to download. I’ve grown tired of streaming especially while I own a large library within iTunes. It’s silly to rent

Yeah, people don’t realize that the highly compressed 4K stream is just slightly better than 1080p Blu-ray and way worse sounding.
I think the general public would be in shock if they actually watched a Blu-ray 4K movie with a banger system.
Yea but you have to get off the couch to play it! Worse when it’s v show with multiple discs

And most movie theaters are stuck in 2K, so... Personally I would take a FHD bluray over 4K streaming because the smear is just maddening on streaming. I don't care if I can count the eyelashes on one eye if everything around it is a compressed mess. And considering how dark the current color grades frequently get, we need that detail in the shadows that gets nuked from streaming versions.
