This is very Apple.

It occurs to me that Apple aesthetically is the most Japanese of big American company . They're really taking the whole kawaii aesthetic and putting an American gloss on it. Look at every graphic in the WWDC. Everything is bright and colorful. Everything is rounded and soft. There's a playfulness you just don't see with Google or Microsoft.

The genmojis are cutesy and relentlessly inoffensive. They're not ugly. They're only ugly if you think Pixar characters are ugly. Pixar: not coincidentally a company co founded by Steve Jobs, and whose many top creatives worship Studio Ghibli

Good to see this. Easy to use and share via Messages app. Also nice that is available as a standalone app.

To people saying this isn’t a big deal, I occasionally let my kids use Dall-E and they love it. Today I my kids brought some friends over after school and my daughter wanted to watch the keynote because she’s interested in AI, I AirPlayed it to the TV and all the kids were literally squealing with joy over these generative AI features. My daughter in particular was glad that there was a dedicated app that she can play in, instead of having to tinker with it inside messages or whatever.

I love that your kids are interested in this kind of stuff! It might be good, when they get older, to explain how these kinds of models take basically static and diffuse an image from it. Those kids have a bright future ahead of them!
