Interesting that, for their m9700 Notebook, Alienware does a Product Comparison with MacBook Pro 17" and HPdv8000t

link

MacBook Pro is a gaming rig???

PS Watch that HP notebook very very carefully:
dv8000t -> deviate thousand T -> Deviate T-1000 :eek:
That's Da Terminator Code ;)

they are both considered "high-end" notebooks, thus the comparison.
and Alienware is now owned by Dell btw.

You are going to get very bias answers, with this being a MAC related site.:D

I will NEVER buy a pc again, not since I switched to the mac 5 years ago:cool:

But if you want those windoze:mad: laptops, go for them. I personally think they suck, mainly because of windoze:mad:

And besides, the MBP may not have as good graphics and what not, and that alienware:mad: may be a little better for games, but HAVE YOU SEEN THE SIZE OF THOSE THINGS:eek: THEY ARE HIDEOUS!!!!!

Alienware has been good and custom ever since dell bought them. They are still good, except that theydon't run OSX.:)

Here's the lowdown:

If you're looking for an intense gaming laptop, then obviously Alienware would be the better choice simply because it comes with XP and I don't think anyone can deny the fact that most games are written for XP, not OS X because of the market share.

Simple numbers.

However, If you want a laptop for more than just gaming, I would suggest shopping around, because apple has an ace up it's sleeve - bootcamp. Which means that you can play all your Windows games on your Mac at full speed. Only disadvantage is that all the kinks aren't yet all worked out...yet.

It's an odd comparison though, to be sure. I would consider the MBP more of you know, a PROFESSIONAL laptop than a gaming right, considering it's in the name ;)

damn, i cant believe people are complaining about the macbooks and macbook pros weight, that alienware is 8.5 lbs.

I'm shallow. So purely on the basis of looks I would never buy anything from Alienware.

That's not shallow. It's called taste. Some people have it like you, some people dont :D

those are two very different computers targeted for different markets. it is to my understanding that alienware systems are built for games. they dont mind a bulkier laptop since it allows them to put higher performing hardware inside. the mac focuses on a balance between performance and size.

its shallow that his "taste" is based on the appeal of the eye only. not a very wide ranging dimension to base your whole concept of taste on.

You mean osx vs. windows. Lets reverse things here. If alienware was the one using osx and the macbook pro only ran windows i would buy the alienware. I hate windows.

Is it me, or does anyone else think that Dell and Apple are in a bit of a war at the moment?

I was just wondering how anyone at Alienware, looking around at other laptops to compare with, would conceive of comparing with Apple.

The Dell angle throws some light on why they might want to get an Apple in there for comparison purposes.

I mean, would gamers who buy notebooks (and there do seem to be quite a few who do..) think about getting an Apple MBP? Puzzling

What kind of imbecile buys a laptop for gaming?

(no offense to imbeciles)

17" or even 19" displays - remember when 17" TFT was a luxury desktop monitor?
Core Duo onwards = Desktop processor speeds
Dual SLI video graphics starting now
Hard Drives based on NAND Flash Memory coming soon

The only part of a laptop that lets gaming down is the trackpad/point.

IMHO :)

They say its called a MacBook 17'', i guess they forgot "Pro "

Unless there's actually a partnership between Apple and Alienware and they let slip the 17" MacBook that Steve is revealing at midnight! Someone take a screenshot quick!

Well, I don't know. The Macbook Pro looks like a tool box and the Macbook looks like a makeup kit from the 60s. :p

It not stupid to buy a laptop for gaming.

It easier to take a laptop to a land party. Some one who needs portablity in the computer but the full power of a desktop. It set up for pure power not for long battery life. It built to be plug in most of the time. College students could make use of it. Not in taking it to class but having that raw power setting on there desk and they can easily take it home with them for breaks and what not.

It not ment to be taken everyone with them. But possible to move it around to different locations with relitivly easy and little extra stuff. Let see pack the power cord and mouse and everything else for gaming already there. Light enough to take with them to places.

Just have to remember here in the Mac world gaming is suppose to be a No No:D Blame it on lame hardware, blame it on lame ports, blame it on Windows. Still its interesting how many MacHeads visit the games section here at Rumors for such a taboo.:) Lets face it hardware wise the dual SLI m9700 has the juice. An unlike Apple they let you choose that video one or two 7900s,choose that CPU to fit you ,not some marketing dept with guys holding hands who still dont game.:D When it comes to hardware Alienware dont play!. Now if we could just get the Mac OS for AMD.
