To say the iPhone didn't innovate anything is crazy. The iPhone completely changed how phone operating systems work. Look at smart phones before the iPhone, and then afterward. Smartphones before the iPhone were clunky and didn't have great user interfaces. They may have had a lot of the features of the iPhone, but they were poorly designed.

Agreed if it weren't for Apple's vision, we'd be stuck on something only slightly better then the LG Prada in 2012. We'd not have Jelly Bean or Windows Phone 8. Thank god for Steve Jobs!

Are you saying the phone market would never have moved forward without the iPhone? At the time the iPhone came out

Most Smartphones were more powerful/had more features than the iPhone ( hell, most ' feature phones had more ability than the original iphone ).
Android Was already well under development
The successor to Windows Mobile was already under development.
Touch Screen phones already existed

We would have moved along just fine without the iPhone, to suggest the market only decided to move forward because of the iPhone is totally insane.

I think people who suggest this might have been very young when the iPhone first came out, for people already using Smart Phones, it brought nothing new to the tablet.

Google totally re-did Android after iOS came out. Windows Phone development didn't begin until 2009, but I admit it's an original take on a UI. I doubt most people will like it in today's Apple reality of gradients and glossy 3D icons.

How did google totally re do android? There was a blackberry like device, and an all touch device, Both of them existed before the iPhone came out.

And Android sucks so much, Apple ripped features like pull down notifications right off it ;)

I think Windows Phone was in development before they even ended Windows Mobile development from what I remeber.

People appear to like Androids abilty to customize your phone, and choose your hardware, because as of right now Android is chewing away at Apples marketshare. And currently, they are beating Apple in installed userbase.

I don;t like iOS, because its limited, its a walled garden, and it feels old and outdated. What major change has been implemented snice the 3G iphone? Other than features ripped right from android, I can't think of anything.

Why change things a lot if you've made a great first design? Instead of changing things that don't need changing, they improve upon with Retina Display, better CPU, better GPU, more RAM, better sensors, iCloud, better casing and so on. It's about the total package with Apple. Samsung doesn't even make the OS!@

How is Apple updating their phones hardware any different than other phone makers updating their phones? Every other company upgrades and improves products as time goes on, thats not an Apple thing.

And no, Samsung does not make the OS. As far as Apple's iOS goes, I'd like to see major overhauls there. Right now, Windows Phone and ICS and Jelly bean blow it out of the water.
