No Google API can run on Tizen OS, so that will be a non-starter. I wish Google Apps could be added, because that would make the Gear S3 the best watch on the planet. I still plan to buy the S3 Frontier to replace my S2, so I'm not dependent on any phone. I think that is going to be the only way to go for the future of smart watches.
It's a trade off, Tizen is the reason for the excellent battery life. I also wish it was Android but it's not a deal breaker. The other thing not mentioned is the always on display with my AW it drove me nuts trying to see the time while holding bags. AW OS 2 did help but I'm spoiled from my LG watch, always on is a must.
Seeing how I just dumped all my Apple stuff and picked up a S7 edge last week and a beautiful 9.7 S2 tab this week I really look forward to the S3 gear. I don't care what anyone says about Samsung stuff I think it's solid any fits my itch.

Yep, I've become a Samsung fan as well (even though my Note 7 got recalled and I'm on an iPhone 6S+ now). Still have my Tab S2 9.7" which i won't be replacing any time soon as it is still going strong after a full years worth of use and of course my S2 smart watch.
I can't see using Tizen on a phone or tablet, but for a smart watch it is extremely good. Just wish there were more apps like Apple Watch and Android Wear have.

I was reading that earlier, kinda makes sense, why not use a platform that seems to work well with wearables.
I wonder if they'll use the dial as an input device too?
Seems to be the best way to interface with a watch menu, imo of course.
