Did they just bump up the AW battery replacement price to $99 or is the estimate just an estimate that is higher than what they normally charge?

It increased right after (maybe during?) the Series 9 was announced.

At this point it might be better to just pickup a $129 Walmart watch SE than get a battery replaced. Or in my case just turn off always on display to eke out a couple of extra hours

After 1 year and daily wearing my Apple Watch ultra im at 99%. Charging every other day. Wonder how long it takes to hit 80% battery health.

FWIW, recently had my S5 ceramic battery replaced and they only charged me $79 which was odd but i’ll take it!

Mine just dropped to 79% and Apple are sending me a packaging to send my watch to them in. I was quoted £102.xx Ince everything as an estimate fyi in case anyone is considering doing this in the UK.

I made an appointment, unpaired my watch, schlepped to the Apple Store, then after waiting for a genius for 30 mins was told that the watch had to be paired for them to check the battery health. Seriously? They can’t just plug it in and check? Pissed me off and I left. Switched to mostly wearing Casio and just using the Apple Watch for fitness tracker.
Thank you for reporting this to save others the hassle. When I bring my watch in, I'll be sure not to unpair.

Is there any limit to how old the watch can be for the battery replacement? My Apple Watch SE1 is almost 3 years old now and at 83%. Will bring it in as soon as it touches 79%, if the deal is still valid on a 3+ year old AWSE1.

There are two terms to keep in mind: obsolete and vintage. If a product is obsolete, there is no support available; however, if it is vintage, you should most likely be able to get it serviced. Please refer to the link for more details. If a product was just discontinued and has not made it to either of the lists, you should have no problems to get it serviced.

So it has been 13 months since I received my S4 SS replacement. My current health shows 94%. I hope for 2 more years before it drops under 80% and then, I will decide if I want to get another battery service or perhaps upgrade to something newer.

Quick DP update. It has been 13 more months, so at this point 26 months since the battery replacement and lately, my battery health has bee rapidly dropping. 2 weeks ago it was at 87%, then just few more days later, it dropped to 86%, again, few more days and it dropped to 85% and now it is at 84%. Essentially the health dropped 3% in a span of 2 weeks and I really hope that this drop does not continue at such accelerated pace, otherwise my watch will be unusable in 2-3 months cause it wont last me till early afternoon.

I hope your battery does not decline as well.

I had a similar experience to you. Got a new S7 watch in January 2022. By the summer battery health was about 94%. Then in the month of August during a week on vacation, I watched the health plummet by one percent almost every day by the end of August it was approximately 84 or 85%. It pretty much remained there declining one percent every 4 to 6 months until it hit 80, where it stayed for almost 16 months before dropping to 79 and then 78 before I got it replaced.

Battery health as reported does not make any sense to me in an intuitive way. However, one should remember that the device cannot really know exactly how much power is in the battery at a given time and has to make estimates about both the power level and health.

The watch has a tiny battery and hence the cycle count tends to grow pretty quickly leading to rapid degradation by about the 2 year mark.

I’ve found the best strategy to be to sell or trade it in at 2-3 years mark (you’ll get about $100+) and then pick up a discounted current gen on Black Friday for around $220ish. That way you’re out about $100 which is about the price of a battery replacement but you get a brand new watch

I would definitely take advantage of battery replacement so that I can keep using my watches in my bands.
