I did end up getting in touch with Support a while back and they acknowledged that because the Series 4 is slightly larger, I might have to angle the inductive puck a bit. This allowed the watch to have a more secure connection and stopped the extra heat I was feeling. It looks like they’ve also silently rolled out a new version which most likely has a bit more room to accomodate the Series 4 better.

Just in case anyone is still wondering, I lived with the Belkin dock for a bit, but I missed the Apple one, and towards the end the Belkin one was doing the same thing, causing the watch to ding and go on and off charge. It appeared that due to the shape change of the back of the watch it was sliding off the dock. So, while I said I wouldn't do it, I bought the revised Apple dock and have had no issues since. It looks like the puck on the revised watch is not only a different shape, but it is higher when flipped up. The watch looks to fit much better on it then my original dock. A happy, but expensive ending.

Just purchased the dock after getting an S4 a couple of days ago. I’m glad the issue was resolved before I purchased. It had an almost perfect rating on Best Buy. I purchased mine from the Apple store.
