I'm about to buy an Apple Watch this week (don't want to wait until March's possible announcement) but want to know people's thoughts on protection for the watch?

I was looking at something like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/X-Doria-Def...56756491&sr=8-4&keywords=X-Doria+Defence+Edge

to protect the watch, and then also a tempered glass screen shield for the screen (yes I know it only protects the flat portion of the screen).

How do you guys protect your watches (if you do at all)??

Depends on whether u get a sport or regular one. My sport one got a lot of scratches after a short period of time. My SS is still pristine (after a little polish with a Cape Cod cloth)

I bought a Spigen case for mine, the slim fit one as the other case looked to bulky. In my line of job I need one, when im at home or the gym the case is off.

Although when I was moving house I had the fridge in my hands, caught the door the case pinged off didn't think much off (and of course was holding a fridge) carried on for another 15-20 minutes before putting in back on whilst moving the bulky items. Later that night I noticed I'd scratched the top of my AW, wish I had stopped to put it back on now. Must have done it when I was moving the bulkier items and catching the door again.

This totally depends on you. Watches are wear items. So, you need to decide for yourself how rough you might be on a watch and how important it is to keep a watch pristine (for example, if you want to sell it as pristine). An Internet forum cannot answer either of those for you.

I wear mine daily and it only has one tiny blemish on the case that is barely noticeable. I wore a watch daily before getting the AW, so I was already accustomed to guarding my wrist a little from hitting things. I do not expect to sell it pristine when I replace it with a next generation. I will get what I can get.

...I'm getting the Space Grey 42mm Sports Edition.

I've bought this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00UVSNJCM?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

It full coverages but it's completely hard to apply without dusts or bubbles. I'm about to return it but I need a protection because I've got scratches on the curve edge of the watch.

..yea, these are the wet install types. I'm pretty good at installing these without bubbles. I have a wet install Gadget Wrap on my current watch - the Pebble Time Steel, and it doesn't have a single bubble on the screen. You have to spray the screen protector so its dripping wet, before applying it. You then squeegee out the water to leave a bubble free installation. Like I said, I'm pretty good at doing these bubble free!

..yea, see I've seen many reviews on YouTube for all of Spigen's Apple Watch protectors and all the reviews have slated all of the products - too bulky, look ugly, too easy to ping off, etc!

I've actually already got a set of these: http://store.ozakiverse.com/new/289-ocoat-wardrobe-apple-watch-case-42mm-gold.html (bought them before I actually buy my watch!!!!:p ) so may just try that Spigen flexishield linked above - at least that covers the whole screen as opposed to the tempered glass, which only cover the flat area of the screen.

..I have to agree with you! I think I am pretty careful - I haven't yet knocked my Pebble Time Steel, and that is not protected (apart from just on the screen). The Apple Watch, does certainly look pretty ACE without any cases on it I guess!

To be fair mine have never randomly pinged off ONLY when I caught them on something, which if you get one you'll understand what I mean.

I think there are 2 they do but I have the linked below. Not bulky at all, fits over the Apple Watch easily and covers everywhere, I don't have a screen protector and to be honest I doubt I will. Although recently scratched my iPhone so I'm now being suspicious of my Apple Watch....and life... jokes

...whats weird is that on Amazon, it has VERY mixed reviews?!! One review has 1 star (pings off too easily) and the next has 5 stars (doesn't ping off?!?!), and it just continues like that ?!!!!

It's one of them I guess, personally I'd take my word that it's an amazing case and it has never pinged off unless I've knocked it, but because its a hard plastic case it would, knowing my like you'll buy and it will the worst thing ever haha.

I really can't stress how easy the case is and how there are no faults with mine at all! (can you see my salesmen skills coming to light.......)

For low profile protection I use:

http://www.amazon.com/Monoy-Hard-Pr...=1456789331&sr=1-1&keywords=monoy+apple+watch

Yes, it's pretty damn awesome for $8.00

For maximum protection I use:

http://www.amazon.com/Spigen-SGP115...r=1-1&keywords=Spigen+tough+armor+apple+watch

Both of these cover the sides and screen of the Apple watch.

There is an old saying that applies to all these ridiculous screen protectors and cases for everything. Especially a watch.
A fool and his money are some party. And to answer the original question No they are not necessary.

I have a rose gold sport with a Casemate naked tough case. I also got a Zagg screen protector but the wet install for me was an epic fail. I requested a warranty replacement and have received it but am terrified to attempt the installation! LOL I do have concerns as to how the Casemate case will install over the Zagg because it was kinda hard to get on, but I'm glad it's there now as it's already saved the aluminum case from what would have been a bad scratch.

Good on you for not getting all caught up in the rumor craze.

Which watch are you getting?

I went from applying screen protectors on mine and taking it off to do certain household chores, but I've decided I'm not going to do that.

Bought AppleCare, so I'm not going to live in fear. Slightly bumped it several times. Even rubbed it past the corner of a metal rack, and not a mark to be seen. I have the space black though, so I don't know if another watch would be a little marked by now.

Whether you get a sport or steel though, I'd say just get AppleCare and not to worry about it.

I've got a a space grey sports watch and in my experience a case is absolutely not necessary: I'm generally careful with it but have banged into a couple of door frames and even dropped it face down onto a patio from waist height (putting it on half asleep). It doesn't have a mark on it and there are no scratches visible to me even under a light.

IMO they're pretty durable devices and it would be a waste (not to mention looking ugly) to cover it with a case for the vast majority of people

I agree but I wouldn't rule it out, like I said for my job I need. I think certain jobs I would recommend and for a tenner its not going to brake the bank any time soon.

Plus I've knocked on door frames and its marked it (see above for the little background on it)

I use a Spigen rugged armor case for my apple watch, whilst it's a little on the bulky side it covers the watch completely - not gonna come off if knocked into a door! I am a bit of a clutz and it has protected the watch multiple times from dings into door frames etc, when i need to smarten up i go back to naked AW goodness and try to be damn careful!!!

Thought i'd post a picture of mine, i think mine is the Spigen Slim Armor case.

As you can see from the last picture, when I caught mine the case pinged off, I've done some minor scratching to the top. Annoyingly never damaged it at work which i were i thought i would.

...that looks alright!

I also ordered one of these:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00WSI643E?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

..this will protect the screen and the bezel.

As an alternative though, I also ordered this one (very similar to yours):

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00WSI64DY?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

..if I then also use a tempered glass protector (which I have already but not used yet) with the JTech case, my watch will be protected.

My outer JETEc case protector came yesterday (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00WSI64DY?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00) and I think it actually looks quite nice:

It doesn't make the watch overly bulky and I think it goes quite nicely with the standard black sports band - makes the watch look more Sporty (the watchface, or image -I shamelessly took from the 'Post Custom Watchfaces' thread !!) !!!

One thing I do like about it is the fact that it covers up the corners of my Spigen Flex HD wet install shield (the corners keep peeling up even though it was a perfect install). Gonna keep this look for a while to see how I get on!

[doublepost=1513284411][/doublepost]Replacement glass is very expensive. No matter how careful you think you're gonna be, there's always that chance that someone else won't be. Get a screen proctor and bumper guard to prevent the protector edges from getting caught. Known brand screen protectors are Zagg, Belkin, Nitro and Griffin.
