The features Apple talked about during their September keynotes in the last 5 years: ECG, always On display, O2 sensor, bigger and edge to edge display, fast charge, IP6X dust resistance, thicker crystal, WiFi 5 GHz, temperature sensor…

dont need, dont need, dont need, its 1mm, dont need, dont need, dont need, dont need, dont need...

Blood Oxygen and ECG are the big features missing.

Actually, I’d say Blood Oxygen and…..that’s it. I think the temperature sensor enables potential new features in the next Watch OS, but for now, I think an SE is actually a better buy for most people than an S8 or S7.

However, I have the money, but still have a bit of sense, so I simply opted for an S7 over the S8. I can wait until the next proper AW update by Apple before upgrading again.

Not that I needed either one just once in my life. With the ECG warnings having quite a few false alarms (according to studies people went to the hospital only to find out the watch was wrong...) I just keep it disabled. About as useful as the fire alarm at my work place that automatically alerts the fire brigade but unfortunately has gone off even though there was no test nor fire, multiple times. Although the sensor has actually been confirmed to be very precise and can be useful in a medical setting with a doctor present. I feel the same way about the blood oxygen reader. It's cool that this tech exists on my wrist but right now it's on a "eh, I guess it works" level which isn't accurate enough for me to base health decisions on.

...and more importantly, waste the already limited battery runtime for.

Sorry, in what world is a smart watch costing several hundred bucks an ideal world device for a child?
I have heard the argument that the cellular Watch can be useful for children, because it does provide some connectivity without the entire issue of getting your children hooked to smartphones from a very early age. The Apple Watch on its own is a rather boring device for children, I imagine.

I have series 6 and 7 and the newest SE and see no difference. The features missing from the new SE are features the average person does not even use ( my opinion only) and I don't use. I use the sleep tracking and tell time and the alarm lol nothing else.

and the features are not very accurate. It will show i was in REM sleep during the time i wa sin the kitchen cooking lol

Rediculous battery life, even after 8 iterations.

Give Me a watch that allows me to turn off most of the bells and whistles that it has and allow me to extend the battery life to 10 days (like a Xiaomi band 7) and that is the Apple watch I will buy again.

10 days? That watch would be bigger than the Ultra. I find the smallest possible size large enough and wouldn't get anything bigger no matter how much bigger the battery is. If you don't want bells and whistles you can get the SE, it has the same battery capacity minus some features and the display is darker as well which should preserve battery in sunlight. You wouldn't want AOD either to increase battery life.

I'd rather have more bells and whistles and keep the battery life as is. The AW currently doesn't have that many useful features to begin with so cutting features would be the wrong direction. Offline map navigation would be good to have, and new health features such as a partnership with under-the-skin blood sugar monitors, being able to connect to ANT+ equipment so I can for example get the cadence displayed on the bike, or attach a more accurate heart rate chest strap (I have a couple and none support bluetooth).

What is the utility of Blood Oxygen and ECG features? ie what are they good for?

I would rather give a small child a Apple watch than a iPhone. Then they can at least receive calls, texts and you can see their location.
Someone close finds even the smaller Apple Watches both look and feel too large for her very fine wrists.

If a new strap allows a smaller watch, especially if also thinner, that might be very appealing.
