I'm about to change your lives.

Considering I'm waking it up by moving the mouse my watch isn't that far away from it. I'm pretty sure I've also waved the watch right at it when the MBP was new to see if that helped. I'll stuff the watch right up to the bluetooth antenna next time though to see if I get luckier with proximity next time . I've had flakey Bluetooth LE controllers before with it so maybe it's a mix of original Monterey being buggy with Bluetooth and now not enough proximity when I originally figured it wasn't that.

My situation is exactly like his (Mac on stand on the right, watch on left hand). Moving my hand near the Mac when I unlike mad a massive difference for my unlocking chance of success.

Mine went from random fail to total unlock from sleep fails.
But was still able to unlock as admin using the watch.

Un-pair watch and followed this fix HERE
Reset BT in terminal enter command "sudo pkill bluetoothd"

Been 2 days, it's still working well
Thanks! Followed this on M1 Mac Mini, working good so far 🤞

Thank you! This has been driving me nuts. It got worse on my M1 Mini after installing Ventura Beta.
On the other hand, I was going to use this problem as an excuse for upgrading my Series 3 watch....

I think the error warning is bogus in its specificity. It just can't connect and knows it should.
I found that disabling keychain iCloud sync, deleting the local chain, and starting over with linking helps.
Just deleting the respective keys and library DB did not work reliably.

I'm still having this issue. And I'm not sure if reporting bugs to Apple will do anything. In addition to this issue, I'm experiencing a number of other problems. My text messages aren't syncing to my Mac anymore, and images sent via iMessage are being sent as small, low-resolution images. Hours later, the other person receives a higher resolution image. When I send a video via iMessage, an empty message is sent instead. Also, during FaceTime audio calls, even small noises are being picked up and amplified to the point where I can't even keep my air pods in my ear. It's almost impossible to use AirPods during FaceTime calls in even slightly windy conditions because the other person can't hear my voice. Additionally, my Mac display keeps crashing when connected to my external monitor.

I feel like Apple's priorities are focused on developing flashy features that can be shown off on stage at their events, rather than ensuring that these features work properly after they're sold.

This issue was resolved for me for a very long time, but it came back up recently. That being said, Apple has already released a software update for macOS that solved it (at least for me). I'm on macOS 13.3.1 and watchOS 9.4
