if you're buying a "traditional watch" that can only really tell the time then why not just use your phone to check the time lol. i thought the idea of a smartwatch was silly and i basically never wore a watch in my life until i got the apple watch. just buy a cheaper smartwatch lol you don't need to have the top line apple product.
A cheap watch is not going to last anything like an extreme sports or outdoor watch

i really hate the design of the Ultra watch. it looks so huge and ugly. good they are staying with OLED though.

i'll not be replacing my S9 any time soon but unless Apple fix the look of the Ultra then I'll be sticking with the S-series watch. i cringe whenever i see someone wearing one and luckily enough i don't think i've actually seen someone wear one irl lol. only youtubers and online aapl fanboys.
The ultra is marketed as an outdoor watch but Apple know regular consumers will buy it because it’s got better features than the regular watch. The bulbous nature of it is due to it being designed to be rugged and have extra battery life compared to the S series. More about function than looks. So when a regular person wears it in normal situation, yeah it looks dumb. It’s like wearing a diving watch while going to work.

Funny you should say that. I have a Watch series 8 and tried on the Ultra at an Apple store a couple months ago. I loved the design. I'll be getting an Ultra this year. I don't care if other people think I'm a "fanboy". I like the look of the Ultra. I love the larger display and brightness.

The Ultra is such a polarising watch it seems.

I have tried a few Apple Watches since they were first released and always ended up returning them within a few days.
I just can't get used to the black slabs… never mind that I didn't find them particularly useful.

However, last year after the AWU2 was released I tried one on — more as a joke — as I thought I'd hate it…

I bought it on the spot. I prefer the design to the other Apple watches.
I am a recreational diver… don't run marathons yadda yadda… I cycle and run… I hike and camp a lot.

The AWU2 has been stellar.

If this is correct I will most likely stay with my Watch Ultra 1. My Ultra is still a great watch. I will upgrade if the new Ultra is thinner with a larger display.

Sitting here in dialysis at the moment, and heck yeah about the blood pressure monitoring, And I’ll have plenty of data to compare. I just bought an AW9 in Dec.2023 so I guess I’m gonna be wearing watches on both wrists.

Tom

It’s Applecared for 2 years, but oh well.
Tom, sorry to hear what you’re going through. Led the development of hemodialysis graft/fistulae stents to keep accesses from stenosing/occluding. If you’re getting hit with PTA balloons to open your access up on an increasingly frequent basis, might want to talk to your doc about it. They’ll stay open longer.

As someone who’s working on smartwatch IP for BP, I don’t think the first round of BP tech is going to be great or very reliable. Imo Apple has an internal specialty bias problem with the docs working for them which has held up the development of BP tech. But we’ll see.

Thank you, Tim. Now I can save $$$ again by not purchasing another toy from you, since my series 7 is more than I need. That goes for the iPad & iPhone upgrade path. Me think I’m on the 4/5 year upgrade path now, and this saves me a lot. Thank you again.🤪

Ngl, I just want better battery life. I don’t see a reason to upgrade from U1 yet.

Samsung's rumoured 'Ultra' certainly is taking cues from the Ultra.

Honestly, I can't say I hate it given my preference to round watch faces.

Its a round watch face on a square body, so you lose the corners for complications. Pass.

Longer battery life and blood pressure monitoring are nice but the thing that will get me to upgrade is Continuous Blood Glucose monitoring.

I got my watch just for scuba diving - it is an excellent dive computer. I like the sleep & activity monitoring. I am not normally a watch wearer but am wearing it more and more.

So Ultra 3 is basically the same as Ultra 2 which is basically the same as Ultra 1 with a few featured upgrades

Gurman is so full of **** I can't believe people put any stock into what he says anymore. He literally talks out of both sides of his mouth (so no matter what happens he can claim he was right).

Great news for my wallet. I'll be holding on to my series 1 AWU if no design changes...... Now if only I can apply the same discipline to iphones.
