Well, as rumored in post #1, hopefully Apple keeps making one taller & taller & taller for you. Don't want to inhibit the downward dog.

I'd prefer round.

If it's an athletic watch, then make it work for athletic situations. I've already scratched the hell out of my 6 from rock climbing, so I'm thinking about the Ultra, or might go back to a Garmin.... I don't use 90% of the smart-watch functions anway.

JIT to replace my current S7. That is if I am still with Apple by then considering their current state of affairs with software support. Am loving the new Samsung Flip, but would like to stay with Apple with their security & ecosystem.

The microLED panel is estimated to cost two to three times more than the equivalent OLED display used in the current model, at a price of around $120.
that is a steep price for such a small display if it turns out to be true ...

as for the size, I'll wait and see what the case size is when that Ultra (5?) is actually announced ...

Y’all, there’s plenty of room to make the screen 10% bigger without increasing the size of the watch. Relax. There’s the inset of the Ti screen frame, the Ti screen frame itself, and the black screen bezel, any or all of which could be re-designed to expand the screen without making the watch any bigger.

Flavor Flav! 😂

LARGER screen?? Holy cow… That will be big. Like a phone on your wrist

They don’t need to make the watch bigger. They just have the decrease the bezels. The Ultra display is basically the same size as the series 7+. 3% difference. (45mm/49mm refers to the case size, not the screen.)

https://www.apple.com/watch/compare/

45mm (Series 7+)
396 by 484 pixels
1143 sq mm display area

49mm (Ultra)
410 by 502 pixels
1185 sq mm display area

And still Apple don’t get it!
The AW Ultra, by their own marketing, is a watch for the outdoor enthusiasts.
Perhaps instead of making it brighter, and making images crisper, that they focus on their marketing remit, and what their customers want. Oh I forgot, they know best.
We don’t want a brighter screen, it’s already too bright, we want longer battery life, on device mapping and routing, and training metrics (like HRV recorded and presented every second)
Until then, the Garmin Epix Pro will win out!

P.S. Cue the fanboys with the smart watch blah, makes calls blah, most of that can be done, when hooking up with an Android Phone! Yes Fanbois, there’s another phone iOS out there
As a former Apple Watch wearer and current Epix Pro owner, I won’t go back to Apple until they can get to at least 2 weeks of battery life. Heck, I’m tempted to upgrade to the latest Epix Pro so I can get a full month of use out of a charge.

I have been using my Garmin Epix Pro for the past 18 months and LOVE it! Like you, I much prefer the round form factor, and it’s been bullet proof so far, surviving daily life, plus sailing, gravel biking, running, chopping wood and working on my cars. Not that my previous AW didn’t survive similar things, but I did baby it for fear that it couldn’t take the hits (as it didn’t have a sapphire lens). I don’t think twice about wearing my Epix - I keep it on 24/7 until it needs to be charged.

Same. After having 935 and 945 I've been wearing the Epix 2 since it came out. As an ultra runner I'm very aware that Apple's "Ultra" watches are anything but. If Apple one day surpasses Garmin, I'll switch back to AW but I don't see that happening. Also, the Garmin is far less "addicting" and needs to be changed nearly never. lol

Probably less bezel to keep the physical footprint similar.

But yeah, that will be pretty massive. Considering the size of the current Ultra.

Maybe they’ll continue their insane product mix complexity but introducing an Apple Watch Ultra Max as the larger size next to the Ultra 🤣

Athletic lol

While that may be their intention, I’m curious how many people are using it for this purpose. Just about everyone I know with an Ultra only got it because they think it’s “the best” Apple Watch and they need something flashy. Sad.

A tiny bit bigger screen would be okay by me, but I certainly hope it's brighter than the ultra 2 in low light situations. It's just plain poor in low light, and that's with it being better in 10.2. :(

I got my ultra 2 only because of the bigger screen. (so it can display more at a time). Otherwise I just use it like my 6th gen AW.
