I've always preferred the wireless keyboard because I have a smaller desk. The Wireless keyboard + trackpad allows me to put them in a drawer when I'm not using the iMac.

The wired cable is very short.. my brother just got one of the new iMacs and chose the wired keyboard thinking it would include the extension cable like the separately packaged keybaoard does.
So if your getting a wired keyboard expect a very short cable.

i use the wired keyboard oon my 27" iMac now i cant see the issue , how far away is he wanting the keyboard to be i can move mine to about 40cm from the screen with cable to spare

Depends if you need the num pad. I'm an accountant so it's probably the most important thing on the keyboard for me, besides Ctrl/Cmd - S.

Mind you, I hate Apple's Wireless Keyboard and Mouse. Only reason I have to keep the Apple keyboard around is to enable Target Display Mode, because for some reason, Cmd + F2 doesn't trigger it on my MS Ergo 4000.

He has a side out keyboard tray.. Currently he has to run the cable over his desk.
I bought the retail wired keyboard a while back and it included and extension cable which gave an extra foot or 2 of slack. It would have been nice if the iMac included that with the wired keyboard option.

Just received my new iMac with wired keyboard. Having second thoughts about it now as I don't require the extra USB ports on the keyboard anymore. 4 ports on the back of the iMac are suffice.

I'm due to visit the apple store soon, so will take the keyboard and try to get it swapped for a wireless, once I explain!

What do you think are my chances?

Spoke to my local apple store and they said they couldn't exchange keyboards because my order was made online.

Spoke to online customer services, explained the situation and straight away they agreed to send me a wireless keyboard completely free of charge :)

10/10 for customer service!

It's pretty great of them to do this. My mate from college had the same thing, he went in, and they just gave him a new boxed one right there. Presumably they don't publicise it as they assume correctly that people would start taking the mick.

Can someone please upload a picture of the wired keyboard, in combination with the trackpad? I am 100% sure I will order an iMac with a trackpad, but I can't decide whether to take the wireless or chorded keyboard.

I prefer having the two extra usb-slots and the numpad, but the wireless keyboard and trackpad really look good together. So I am curious for how the wired and trackpad look together.

I rarely use a number pad on a keyboard, but it's probably an adaptation to using a notebook primarily for the last 10 or so years.

One thing I'd love to hear from folks on to confirm (and would be why I go with the wireless) is that I'm guessing I could use the wireless interchangeably
between the iMac and iPad 2.

My main issue with the wireless keyboard is I tend to place my fingers on the wrong keys probably because I'm used to a full size and I'm placing my hands on the keyboard based on my peripheral vision (that's my theory). So it's really my problem, not the keyboard's.
In addition, isn't the wireless keyboard missing some function keys that the wired one has (F13-F19)? I tend to assign those to tasks.

Lastly, my magic mouse runs thru a ton of batteries at work and I was afraid that would be an issue with the keyboard as well, though I have no experience with that (the small keyboard we use on a Mini at home is actually the discontinued wired version).

Go for wireless

I always liked numeric pad and cleaner wireless options. I searched and I could not find any low profile, wireless keyboard with numeric keyboard for macs.

So bought the wired one thinking, I get two extra usb's, but the hubs are not high powered, hardly useful. For e.g. I can not connect my iPhone.

For the next iMac ordered the keypad along with the wireless keyboard.
http://store.apple.com/us/product/H0321VC/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY, by it self it is little expensive, but not when ordered with an iMac.

Though slightly bigger than what I anticipated I like the calc, option in it, and is useful. As my imac is not yet shipped, don't know if this would really substitute the integrated number pad option.

I, for one, regret getting the wireless keyboard. I was spoiled by the nice, full numeric keypad wireless keyboard I had for my white Intel iMac and went for the new one. Several firmware update attempts and various bluetooth and power switch tricks failed to solve an intense battery drain problems (new batteries every three days or so). Additionally, the lack of numeric keypad is a big inconvenience--I use it any time I type a number longer than two digits. I wish I had asked for a wired one instead.

I bought a $20 logitech which works fine, but takes up more space and a USB port. It doesn't match, either.

I asked about swapping the wireless for the wired keyboard in the store when I went to buy my iMac this past weekend. They ended up giving me one for free with no hassles at all, they just deducted the $50 from the price iMac. Currently using the wired for the number pad when programming, but may try switching between the two since I have the option.

I am planing to do a switch from wired kb w/np to wireless kb with the following additions since I am heavy numeric key pad user. And this will be my ideal setup, the magic trackpad set to the left side of the keyboard attached with the magic wand and on the right side the wireless numeric key pad and then having the magic mouse on my right hand side since I also like using the mouse. When OS X Lion comes out having the magic trackpad will be usefull for all the new gestures and features that Lion will offer.

But I am still waiting to see before I buy all of the accessories mention above, if Apple introduces an updated Magic Trackpad, that will also (some how, or by gestures) will call up a touch base numeric keypad and display the touch keys right on the pad. Now that would be a very Magical Trackpad. That is my wish for the next Magic Trackpad update or Magic Trackpad 2.
