well, if put away 35$ per month you will have the $350! Meaning you should get less beer or whatever per month :)

If you own a laptop I would highly recommend AppleCare. I work in a place that fixes Macs, and we fix way more laptops then desktops. Laptop parts are also a lot more expensive. Believe me, if ur screen fails, or logic boards poops out after the 1st year, you will be pissed. Spending $500-$700 on a repair sucks, and I have seen people pay that much 2 months out of warranty. If you only plan to keep your machine for a year don't get it, but most of us plan for long term use, so get it, its worth the investment.

That is very true, but the recent Macs so far has been plagued with so many problems that in some way it shortens our upgrade cycles.

CD MBP - Overheating issues
C2D MBP - Display (check my sig)

For the Macbooks, refurbished can be had for peanuts now. Why spend $250 buying Applecare when if it does break a year down the road I can buy the then latest and greatest refurbished machine for $799? It makes little sense.

Likewise paying $700 to fix a part is no longer feasible when even a refurbished Macbook Pro can be had for $1199.

Odds are you can sell your broken system to places that buy broken Macs for spare parts, and put in the cost of AC plus a bit more towards a better and faster machine. A breakdown would be a blessing, not a curse.
