I did'nt but am thinking about it now. I have it on my Touch and my New Mini.

I only do it on the computers. I think the one year warranty is adequate for this type of product.

Whats the deal with the battery replacement coverage with vs without Applecare?

I only bought Applecare for my iPhone because the standard warranty does not cover battery replacement, while with Applecare you get one battery replacement, which otherwise would be more expensive than the whole price of Applecare.

What? I have had my iPhone replaced for battery issues before, and I don't have Applecare for it. Of course that was within the first year.

I'm going to wait until my year is almost up to see if I should get it. If there are a ton of hardware failures during that time then I might pick it up. But I'm pretty good with my electronics and I'll just be using the iPad around the house to surf. So really no need to buy it.

nope. i am sure that version 2 will be available after a year and I will be selling my version 1 to get it. no need for me to cover it for 2 years :)

As much as I like Applecare (I have it on my Mac Pro), I went with Squaretrade on this one. Really prefer to have that accidental coverage (and surprisingly, NO deductible...) on the iPad, since falling/dropping would be the most likely thing to happen. (I have Squaretrade on the iPhone too.)

Yeah I think that if you're battery dies prematurely they will give you a refurb model, just like they would for anything else, but I think that if you have Applecare then one time during the 2 years you can have it sent in to Apple to have your iPhone's battery replaced, eg the service that they normally charge $110 for or whatever it is.

Probably at the end if i decide to even get Applecare.. Anyway people are saying Amex got me covered but i never used their warranty service before so let's see.:)

I have eight apple products in my home - 3 iPods, 1 touch, an iPhone, and mbp, an iMac, and now the iPad - none of which included apple care. Though it's about 20% luck, it's 80% just taking care of your property as best as possible. I'll still knock on wood, but I've been lucky where I never needed any type of extended warranty with most of my products.

No. I have 1 i tough and 2 ipods. Never had a problem. im going on 2 years for my i touch. still in great shape. If ur careful with ur products. never drop it. Then ur fine. I have an hp laptop. its 3 years old. I didnt upgrade the warranty for it. I figure the price im paying for the warranty. When my laptop eventually dies i could of saved up for a brand new laptop anyways.

applecare is useless in my opinion. Trying to get the genius to replace the battery in my iphone 3GS is an uphill battle I just can't win. They tell you its normal that the battery needs to be charged 2-3 times per day. I know it's not working like new, but they say its close enough.

Plus they won't fix the most likely risks which are broken screen or water damage of the headphone socket.

Squaretrade is the way to go. Its cheap and it covers relevant risks.
