But extending AppleCare after the regular time would be nice…
I have only bought the original, 3yr AppleCare once since they brought out the pay by month/year plans. It was on my iPhone XS Max and when the regular term ran out, I had the option to continue month by month. Still using the phone and it is still covered.

I need to purchase AppleCare as tomorrow it's going to be past the window. What option did you all do. I'm so confused. I do plan on keeping it longer then 3 years. If I pay the full $399 can I extend it? It seems the yearly while more expensive in the long run as long as I keep paying it renews.

Yearly will always be more expensive, and yes you can renew it after the 3 years. I had the option to do that on my 2018 before I sold it.

so it's basically the same. Its for people who don't want to shell out the $399 initially.

Remember back in the day when you just had it for the 3 years and had to pray after the 3 years was up nothing would go wrong but about 3 weeks after AppleCare expired you needed a new motherboard. Then depending on the genius helping you either would hook you up or not. Those were the days!
