Isn't getting a new iPad at a discounted price good enough?

I don't recall any other tech manufacturers offering this option!

It is and there are others that do this. Had a Garmin Fenix that the alititude stopped working. $130.00 and was sent a refurbed watch. Worked for me considering new was $500

Wow that sounds reasonable too! Right now in Singapore it seems to me that only Apple have such a policy (same goes for the 14 day return policy)

Is the refurb a new model too or same model?

Same model...

Same model...

Ah I see, thought that you got an upgrade along the way too, that would have been awesome of Garmin

I now wonder if OP is offered a new model or the exact model as the spoilt one. Also, can he/she keep the spoilt one if he/she take up the offer?

At least offer a repair, which i'd pay for, especially considering an extended warranty was purchased and never used.

They do offer out of warranty screen repair...

Out-of-warranty* cost:
iPad mini, iPad mini 2: $199

iPad, iPad 2, iPad Air, iPad 5th generation: $249

iPad 3rd generation, iPad 4th generation, iPad mini 3, iPad mini 4, iPad Air 2: $299

iPad Pro 9.7-inch: $379

iPad Pro 10.5-inch: $449

iPad Pro 12.9-inch, iPad Pro 12.9-inch (2nd generation): $599

You may not like the price, but they do offer it. Take your iPad to a 3rd party and get it fixed. Apple doesn't owe you anything after the warranty is expired. You're making an issue where it doesn't exist.

That's a surprise, have you experienced it before?
I have not but I visit a couple of Amazon forums regularly and have read many, many posts from people who posted that that's what they were offered when they called customer service about a broken Kindle or Fire. I have no reason to believe that any of the posters were lying.

Thanks, that sounds good too in my book

This makes the offer given to OP even more worth, especially if he/she gets to keep the spoilt iPad (which can be sold off to those shops taking in such iPads to recoup losses or repaired at 3rd party repair shops to become a second iPad to use/sell)

It likely costs as much to repair a cracked screen as it does to have you buy a new one at a discount, considering available parts, labor, and shipping costs.
Good point, thanks for the balanced perspective.

My post is honest and Im a long time member. You should be more discreet and not make foolish accusations.

Could you then honestly elaborate on these points?
  1. What model iPad did you buy?
  2. When did you buy it?
  3. Did you actually buy AppleCare+ for it?
  4. How exactly did the screen get cracked?

Not iPad related, but my iPhone 7 screen had cracks develop around two corners of the screen within 2 months of purchase. I figured I had somehow hit it on the corner and went into an Apple Store expecting to have to pay the full price of screen repair. They took it, looked at it in the back, determined it was a defect in the screen and not my fault. Replaced it for free.

I like AppleCare.
