Your opinion is welcome, but I'd prefer a definite answer since it is my intention to upgrade my drive when a 200GB 7200RPM model becomes available.It's not considered user replaceable (the MB one is) so I'd say yes: it would be voided.

How do you know for a fact that this is true?
So could you buy a larger HD for the MBP and take it into an Apple store to have it installed and it still be under warrenty?

You cannot buy the hard disk yourself, but through Apple. Their drives have a special Apple logo on the label.
