Hahaha..Guess what! I get a core shutdown WHILE LOADING WINDOWS via bootcamp! That's freakinglyliciously weird! It will then load up after like hmmm ages man...For something this expensive...We should get quality and efficiency.

I've like got bootcamp to install windows. All works well. However, it I were to switch from Leopard to windows, my air just passes out like that. POOF! It dies.....Then it will magically reload up on its own.

Yeah but Vista, dude. Vista. :(

Exactly. No Vista. Period.

@Sesshi

Hey man it's not nice calling all people who have a worse than negative experience with Vista idiots. Vista is a f. monstrosity, don't let me start on the issues I 've had with it...vista is "sod it" material for me. Even if they offered me a laptop made in heaven with a gazilionth cores and trillions of ram running at tdps of 0 and with 3d graphics you could walk into it would be a no go for me because of vista. VISTA IS THE PITS, IT GETS NO WORSE THAN THAT. PERIOD. ENOUGH WITH THESE MS MORONS, WHATEVER THEY DO THEY DO IT WORSE THAN EVERYBODY ELSE INVOLVED AND YET THEY MAKE 10000000000000X TIMES WHAT EVERYONE ELSE DOES. I AM NOT BUYING ANYTHING FROM THEM FOR THE COMING 20 YEARS. FOR ALL THE PAIN THEY'VE CAUSED ME OVER MY LAST 20 YEARS. :apple:

Maybe not nice. But more often than not, somewhat accurate. Also perhaps somewhat experience-less and easily influenced, often taking unproven statements from their web peers as the absolute truth. i.e. perfect fodder for Apple marketing.

This this a huge pile of crap you are talking. While MS users are very experienced and investigate extensively everything they hear. What is this claptrap man? Do you think you are the only person on the globe with a computer? Ok you are tactless, but to think you are the only one with any experience...I am a computer scientist and I could quite possibly run ten circles around you technicallywise before you said microsoft.

When I explained the core shutdown problem to the Genius yesterday, all he put was:

"the unit slows down significantly to the point where the customer cannot use it"

Hopefully the other issues I'm having with the Air will be fixed though, and it'll be going on eBay. Buh-bye Air.

I had mine in recently for repair and it was easy to demonstrate the shut down. They replaced the logic board but the genius said it wasn't guaranteed to work. He said there was a note in their database that the engineers are aware of an issue and requesting any log files, etc to help but there was no indication of a fix anytime soon. Sure enough, I got my "fixed" MBA and it still does the shut down. It's gotten to the point where I'm going to be selling it, I think. It's ruining my Apple experience.

I do not have any more core shutdowns... why, i just redone the thermal paste properly and attached the heatsink more closely to the cpu/chipset die.

If I can play WoW (windowed @ 1024x768) on a HDTV running at 1920x1080 + have the internal screen at 1280x800 and watch a youtube video without core shutdown (i ran this test non-stop for 1 hour then turned off youtube for hulu and played another 2 hours, then spent another 2 hours playing wow, this is all non-stop and both WoW and Firefox running), I guess that solved my problem.

You can just press Control + C to stop it.

Tried that and it tells me Permission Denied

I've actually got to agree with this guy. I've been using Vista 32 since May 2007 and have had no issues to speak of. A few BSODs here and there (Nvidia), but nothing terrible. All of my programs worked. The performance hit was annoying but not terribly noticeable. While a lot of the Apple marketing against Vista is true, it's taken out of context. People bought terrible $300 computers 3 years ago and are surprised when it won't run. As long as you buy a real computer, you won't have any problems.

I run it on a somewhat "dated" system now made up of a Q6700 at stock speed, 8800GTS 640 96SP, and a 680i board. It was $1600 worth of parts at the time, but it works.

Well I just went in today. They stated that "apple is aware of the problem" but replacement is not an option at this point. MOTHER****ERS.

Apple's products have been having quality issues, at least my experience. Dad's iphone stopped getting signal and is getting repaired as we speak, and this ongoing issue. Never had this happen to my laundry list of apple products before including

g4 imac
ibook g4
macbook pro
intel imac
blackbook

Air is the first problem, then my dad's phone.

It's a shame everyone is too wrapped up in themselves to give DIY methods a try.

Its a build error. Apparently, when the logic board was assembled, they did not put enough pressure on the heatsink to the chips, causing insufficient transfer of heat from the chip to the heatsink.

In my opinion, I like DIY stuff. Same reason I mod my car. While you might not share my views, no need to insult the users who wish to perfect their system as much as possible.

I'm just afraid that Apple will not honor their warranty if they feel that "a diy" mod ruined my laptop. Come on it is a 1700 laptop! We should not be scrapping glue off out laptop.

Dear,

Just three days ago I received m brand new MBA who replace a defective older one. And two things I noticed,

1: The battery life is better with this later version. Also in Istat for the first time the battery health is indicated 100%

2: I don't experience core shutdown anymore. Not even with skyping for an halve day.

Just good luck?

Sadly enough I have to return this one also because of an not good responding trackpad, damages, a non working magnetic latch and a bleeding backlight.

With kind regards,
Bas

This is not very encouraging news for anyone who is tethering between getting an MBA or not getting one. Hopefully, the next revision will be out soon and that it'll address most, if not all of the issues raised in this forum.

Dear,

As long the next revision will be build by Foxconn with their poor QC it won't be anything better. Most of the issues (if not all!) I had with my MBA's are duo bad build quality and not duo bad design.

I am aware core shutdown is a design issues, but partly also a building issue. Knock on the wood, but my current MBA don't have any core shut down issues till now.

With kind regards,
Bas

I'm not quite sure what you meant in your post, but I wasn't trying to insult anyone. I was just pointing out how nobody really paid any attention to your previous post which I quoted.

Since your warranty isn't covering these core shutdowns (for some of you), then there really is no point in having one is there? Besides, there is a very little chance Apple would be able to tell if you opened up your system, since there are no tamper-evident seals or things of that nature inside.

Disclaimer: I'm not forcing anyone to open up their MBAs, just saying it's a good idea.

Do laptops/notebooks usually do not have tamper-evident seals? My mom's HP just stopped working and she would like to take it to a local shop instead of sending it to HP just to save time, but we are afraid that if it costs a lot (I think it is the motherboard) then she would have to send it to HP and they would know that someone opened it!

Demand your full money back and a waiver of the restocking fee.

Apple sold us a computer that doesn't perform up to spec. Apple is aware there is a problem, therefore Apple is aware that they took our money and gave us a useless product. If Apple refuses to give us our money back, then this is called fraud.

At this point a class action isn't a bad idea at all.
