I didn’t used to add it, but started to maybe a year ago. Probably when I began paying attention to the out-of-warranty repair prices. I’ve used it a few times, and a few times Apple has give me a courtesy out-of-warranty repair (without me having AppleCare). So I’ve probably broke even at this point. I don’t usually need “technical” support from Apple, but once in a while something goes crazy, and it’s nice to just give them a call. Happened a few times with my iCloud account.

I get it for 2 reasons. Peace of mind, and device value retention.

With AppleCare + now covering accidental damage, I don’t have to worry IF something happens to it. At some point down the road when I want to trade in or sell my iPad, having that protection adds to the value of the device as its a risk free purchase for the buyer....also makes it easier to sell. If you trade it in, you are entitled to a prorated refund on the plan for the cost minus the months covered.

With prices only going up on these new devices, I think it's a smart idea especially on portables like the iPhone and iPad.

I didn't buy applecare when i got my 2018 iPad pro because i was rushing to get the order in.

Went to buy it after the fact but I get a "not eligible" message despite the same page stating they still offer within 60 day purchase.
That happened to me for something before, I was going to call them but checked back some time later and it had resolved itself. But you should call them anyway because you have less time (mine was for a Mac and with a Mac you have a year).

I can’t justify not having AppleCare anymore now that they have the monthly option. For the 12.9” iPad Pro its $5 a month. $5 a month for me is well worth having piece of mind on a $1200 (WiFi/cellular model) device that people are already saying bends super easy. Ymmv though.

I hate extended warranties, but I think it is worth it in this case.

I have cracked 3 iPad screens out of the 8 iPads I have owned. The iPad 3 took me dropping my Macbook on it to break the screen. I cracked both the 2016 12.9” and 2017 12.9” screens without realizing how. The $600+ repair cost without AppleCare makes them pretty much write offs. I didn’t have AppleCare on the 2016 and gave it away to my sister (who still uses it!).

That seems odd - I added mine through the Apple Support app.
The option to purchase in the support app just gives a "could not connect to apple support" message. They really don't want me to buy Applecare.

I'll probably end up visiting the store on monday if i can't get on one these methods to work this weekend.

For me personally, I don’t need AppleCare as I am ultra-careful (says he as I now go rushing around the house touching every bit of wood so as not to tempt fate)!
However, and it’s a bigge...... If you are like me and have grandchildren who tear around the house faster than a Category 5 Hurricane and have no idea what “WATCH WHAT YOU ARE DOING” means then YES, AppleCare is a must.

Exactly this ...

Did you buy AppleCare for your new iPad? I have not bought it for any in the past and never had a problem, but I'm thinking about adding it to my 11" IPP.
What are the pros and cons on it?

Opinions please.

Nope.

I have a home insurance covering damages (60 EUR own risk) and technical issues are Apple's responsibility for the first 2 years (as long as they aren't my fault, EU law). :)

(The 135 EUR Care+ isn't available in Spain for iPads.)

Depends on the device, its use, type of build and your own behavior.

iPhones and iPads I usually take AppleCare+, they’re often fragile devices that are taken with you.
Especially nowadays when most of the devices seem to be glass. It gives me ease of mind when hauling these things with me. Besides, it’s adds to reselling the device.

On my Macbooks and iMac, I never purchased AppleCare+ and never needed it.

For my new 12.9 inch iPad Pro , decided to get AppleCare+. It’s a thin, sheet of aluminum and glass that I bring everywhere.

I'm assuming "own risk" means that is your deductible? One problem with filing an insurance claim here is that it becomes a "hit" on your insurance and they keep long records here in California, 3 years I think. After 3 hits within the time period they may deny coverage. With the new fire paradigm and earthquakes, water damage from leaking appliances, etc. that is something we have to take into consideration. I expect that our rates are going to increase significantly due to the fires in vulnerable areas, and your claim history is going to be used to determine your rate.

The cost of the 11" 1 TB with cellular is ~$2K if you include extra cables and case. The peace of mind for me, particularly as I travel a bit, is totally worth it.

Had 1 accident so far with my phone. Damage was 259 EUR and they paid me the amount minus 60 EUR (= 199 EUR) several days later.

I don't think the strike policy is allowed uphere in Europe, but no sure. Will have a look. Thanks for mentioning.

They might not lower my insurance fee next year, but the amount I am currently paying is definitely acceptable.
