This computer runs vista better than any computer I have owned.. and those other computers have a much faster processor. Everything works flawlessly, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE MULTITOUCH!. if i even accidently put 3 fingers for 2 seconds on my touchpad, A.) either the mouse locks up and you have to use the keyboard to go find 'restart.' or B.) the computer just BLUESCREENOD's on me saying that the APPLEMTP.SYS is at fault. Are there any better multitouch drivers or even drivers i can use that are NOT multitouch?.. i would love to not BSOD or freeze every like 20 mins of use.

I have also had one BSOD in Vista caused by the multi-touch drivers.
Also, I think I know the reason why Apple didn't ship any drivers for the external ethernet adapter. The Vista drivers for USB200M caused bsods and corrupted Windows update downloads when I tried it.

I'm running XP on my air and i used it non stop for 10 hours each day last weekend (work, unfortunately) without any issue whatsoever. The driver should be compatible with both XP and Vista you would have thought.
I'd think the problem lies with Vista rather than with the MBA. Remember, the MBA IS an Apple product, really designed for and meant to run Apple software.... From everything I've read, Vista is a nightmare and a lot of people have gone back to XP because of that. XP is probably more stable.

I know this is not particularly helpful, but for what it's worth I've been running Vista for 5 weeks now. I use the machine all day at work, and usually for 2-3 hours in the evening at home.
At work I have an external mouse, and at home I always use the touchpad.
So far, I've experienced no issues at all with touchpad drivers. In fact I'm quite impressed with the apple drivers, much better than the drivers on my previous laptop (Sony SZ).

XP doesn't have any of these problems (not sure for the ethernet dongle though). However, multitouch doesn't exactly "work" in XP but I have yet to see it lock up, crash, bsod, etc.
Vista isn't insanely bad, its just not ready for extended use w/o running into problems.
FUD. Vista isn't that bad. Certainly its a much better experience on the Air than XP because of better power management. Vista works splendidly for long periods of time as long as it has decent drivers, wich Apple does not provide for Windows.
With the Air you cannot really run their Touch Pad driver without having they keyboard drivers installed. Looks like I will have to write Windows drivers for the Touch Pad after all.

I can't reprduce it. It seems completely random.
Uh no. Apple wrote the driver applemtp.sys. It is Apple's problem. Tens of thousands of developers manage to write drivers that don't bluescreen windows, so Apple should be able to figure it out. Apple's drivers also bluescreen XP (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1450160&tstart=45). This is widespread enough that the press writes about it (http://searchmobilecomputing.techtarget.com/generic/0,295582,sid40_gci1309407,00.html) so I am kind of surprised that Apple let it go this long.
Apple is producing machines to predominantly run on the Mac platform (OS X)..... Windows is an afterthought.....
The day I went out to buy a Mac (several years ago) was so that I could get AWAY from Windows and all of its inherent messy problems. Personally, I'm sorry that Apple has since structured things so that people would be able to run Windows on a Mac. <Shudder>

Wrong. Apple's primary interest is getting people to buy the hardware. OS X is a loss leader, it's what entices people away from windows. They give it away with every machine and even retail copies are a: cheap to buy; b: easy to install on multiple computers (if so inclined) as there is no license key. The same can be said for the iLife software.
Boot camp is another enticement, for people sitting on the fence, worried about xyz app that only runs in windows. While sure, it would be nice if everyone ran OS X, Apple are well aware that a lot of people buy their machines to run other OS's on them.
Apple has a long standing "it just works" campaign. This should apply equally to the OS X side as it should to the Windows side. They try to control the windows side as best they can by providing the hardware drivers, so if there is indeed a problem with a windows driver supplied by Apple, they should fix it.
why install a microsoft program at all? MBA's come with OSX isnt that good enough?
well, some people prefer to use XP/Vista for gaming purposes
though i'm not sure that this has to do w/ the OP's problem, every once in a while in XP using the MBA, the computer freezes, the screen turns blue w/ a bunch of words, and the computer restarts before I can read what the screen says. this ONLY happens when i'm playing Sims 2

No I am not positive. Check event viewer in administrative tools for system logs and you should be able to tell.
That is what this thread is about. applemtp.sys is the only bluescreen that I have ever had on the Air.

I think I've narrowed the cause down to multi-touch operations (using 2 fingers at once), however here is a work-around...well, working for me so far..
Workaround:
As I've read on some of the support forums after the update there are now 2 mouse interface devices installed, after Disabling the "Apple Multitouch Mouse" I've not come across another BSOD.
Although I'm not sure yet, perhaps the other interface device is one left over from the previous mouse driver, or its an erroneous ugly twin from the new mouse driver. In either case Apple will need to fix their installer to remove it, or fix driver itself. Hopefully some more light is shed on this soon.

I don't have the BSOD problems on Vista but I'm running a Macbook 2.0 Aluminum. I tried disabling that "Apple Multitouch Mouse" and just keeping the "Apple Multitouch" driver running instead. I didn't notice any difference except that opening the boot camp control panel failed once and then worked when I tried to open it again. So it looks like that driver is used for at least something.
