After some unscientific testing, I have found that the two finger tap gesture that causes my BSOD problems with my 1.6 SSD Air. I'm running XP SP2. So far so good *fingers crossed* this bsod thing is really irritating, it comes in intervals of 15 minutes but so far after disabling 2 finger tap, 30 minutes no problem

I'm running XP SP3 with all OS & driver updates, including the mtp update.

I disabled the two-finger secondary click, and I'm still having multiple BSOD's - all with the error message "applemtp.sys".

This is beyond annoying.

I totally understand how you feel. I recently installed 10.5.6 on my Mac OS X partition of my air, and it worked brilliantly for 3-4 days and then 1 day when i booted it up it stopped recognizing the keyboard and mouse inputs. However, I could access and control it using screen sharing with my old macbook pro (running 10.5.5), then I thought it might be the file permissions so i asked it to verify and correct file permissions, now the mac partition is not even recognized as bootable and I'm stuck with the bsod issue with XP rendering my air relatively useless, since it won't boot from anything (i tried this at my local apple store with some of their bootable disks + retail cds that they use in service, i can do this since I know them very well), it seems to recognise but refuses to boot, just restarts. My discs are in UK (i live in malaysia and study in UK) so i have to wait till i get back to UK to try my original discs that came with my air. This IS ANNOYING APPLE, I EXPECTED BETTER.

same problem, different cause

My multitouch works without any problems under vista business. however, if i try to run ANY system-modifying anti-spyware software, i get the BSOD. Very strange.

I am curious as to how you disabled two finger tap.

Also, will someone with a second generation macbook air let us know what the device manager properties are for the "Multitouch" and "Multitouch Mouse"? On the original the results are:

Driver Date: 01 Nov 2007
Driver Version: 2.0.1.8

I would be interested in trying the applemtm.sys and applemtp.sys files from a newer machine on my system if the versions were more recent. I use Vista x64 so it would need to be from a non 32 bit system. You can find these files in c:\windows\system32\drivers

Vista On MacBook Air :O

I'm sorry to sound really Apple-like here... but why the hell do you have Vista on your MacBook Air??? I run XP on my MacBook Pro... and well it runs crazy fast... (8Gb, 2.93GHZ) but seriously, I mean I can't see how you could do that to your MBA :O

I think that my 128GB SSD is only just big enough for OSX... but to partition it with Vista is just crazy....

Actually I dual boot it on a 64G SSD on the air. I triple boot my MBP with Vista and Linux. I have never gotten rightclick to work on the new MBP in Vista incidentally.

This thread is not a Apple writes terrible windows drivers rant, although clearly they do. This is a bunch of people trying to make those drivers work. Don't you have something more productive to do than jump in and criticize us?

I appologise for my behaviour.... I really should have thought before typeing... I now apreciate what you are saying... and I could do with some drivers myself... I would never venture to do this sort of thing... But hey, I just use a wireless mouse...

Just got off the phone

I just got off the phone with tech support,

They claim that they do not support the drivers since it is on the windows platform.

The recommended formatting the partition and reinstalling XP, even though I had explained to them that a USB mouse work with no errors.

This is my first Mac and I am not experiencing the wonderful customer support which was advertised.

BSOD using MacBook

I've used my MacBook for months on boot camp on never got a BSOD.
uiot
I rebuilt the laptop for my family to use and started getting BSOD almost straight away. I rebuilt it again. Same again.

Old difference between the build that I used previously and the one I use now is SKYPE. Search google - I'm not the only one either. The issue needs to be discussed between Skype and Apple.

Anyone got any ideas?

When you say macbook, do you mean macbook air?

This is not a Skype specific issue. I don't run skype and my MBA can bluescreen on demand.

Many months ago I installed this trackpad update for XP on my release unibody Macbook and immediately found it to BSOD each time I touched the pad. I reverted to last knwon good in disgust and have barely used Windows since, as the Bootcamp 2.1 driver is such a piece of crap (3 fingers for a right-click, even though it says 2?!!). I couldn't believe Apple would release such an awful driver.

However, I recently installed Windows 7 RC since it's very good and have been using it all day without a hitch, even with the trackpad update. Then I installed Skype - and bang! BSOD immediately, and each time I touch the pad without fail. Then I remembered that I had Skype on my XP install before I installed the trackpad update.

So, yes the driver is at fault obviously, but the trigger is unequivocably Skype. Sort it out Apple this is a joke! Claiming no support for Bootcamp isn't really on since for many it's the crutch that makes switching platforms acceptable.

Another thing that bothered me for ages was the stiffness of the trackpad click on the unibody, and I discovered today that you can loosen the tension using a screw inside the battery door. Finally, one of the other big niggles resolved. Just need this driver fixing now...

Don't kid yourself: Apple's primary interest is still in getting people to buy and use their machines running OS X, not Windows.

No, you shouldn't kid yourself: Apple's prime interest is in getting people to buy their gadgets to spend even more money in the iTunes store.

Of course you don't. Apple's support sucks, but nobody wants to admit that.

Besides, isn't it just great that Apple distributes Boot Camp - a drivers collection and installation utility for Windows - with their operating system, but refuses to support their own software?

I use Windows 7 RC via BootCamp and it hasn't crashed so far. I needed to download some updates to trackpad drivers manually, though. No problem with nVidia (or any other) drivers.
