Wasn't everybody saying there would be something AI related with the iPad? crickets from apple. Also, art now costs a thousand dollars if you want to do it professionally. Thats pretty cheap for a pro but pretty steep for a hobbyist, unless you only plan on owning one apple device to do everything for you. The iPad is a jack of all trades but only masters one.

They showed off lots of examples of AI - you know AI is more than LLM's don't you?

Also i'm pretty sure the iPad Air with the new Pencil is more than enough for hobbyists, it's better than the 4 year old iPad Pro my girlfriend has been using for the past year to it on.

The reported weights are all correct. But the differences aren’t that great - a bit over a 10th of a pound in the case of the 13s and 4/100ths of a pound in the case of the 11s. Is that really noticeable?
Well, the old Magic Keyboard is heavy as *$%@ so hopefully there will be a meaningful change with the new Magic Keyboard, as they claim the new one is lighter.

Probably “Special Edition,” like the iPhone. What most people understand it means in a practical sense is “budget model.” The MacBooks should also be Pro, base and SE.

I know, but why should "Special Edition" be the cheap one. They never actually said what it stood for either, we asumed it was that - I always found it very random.

iPad, iPad Plus and iPad Pro would be better.

That‘s the biggest problem with the iPad lineup - too many models with ******** naming conventions. The iPad “Air” moniker needs to GO. It’s MEANINGLESS. What’s airy about it? Not its thinness! Not its weight! So why tf is it called Air???? That model should become the “base” iPad, with the current low tier model being renamed to SE or something. Annoys me to no end.

Now it means basic yet more expensive than basic.

But only for the iPad. It's the cheapest MacBook.

I guess it can be seen as a 'lite' version of the iPad Pro so makes sense in that way rather than being physically thinner/lighter. But I'm sure there must be a better name out there somewhere.

Maybe the entry level iPad could just be called iPad SE to indicate it's the base model, with the midrange becoming just the iPad.

Agree. It's all gotten very complicated i.e. base, Air, Pro, mini, multiple Pencils that work or don't work depending on device, different keyboards etc.. It seems they want an iPad at every price point and rungs on a pricing ladder that can get you from $300 to over $2,000 for a device that basically does all the same things.

It would be really something to be in the room when they are discussing the strategy and thought process behind the product lineups.

It’s all a total mess. Every single product lineup.

OLED, lighter and thinner, M4. This was enough to finally want to let go of my 2018 iPad Pro. Also glad that the Pencil 2 is compatible. Really don't need to buy another Pencil yet. I still do not get why cellular is such an expensive option in 2024. That bit stung, I will admit. But I need it when I go overseas as my cell carrier's international data options are not great.
Er, you will need a Pencil Pro

The Air no longer has a true purpose other than driving upsells

It should be called the "iPad TCS" (Tim Cook Special)

I couldn't disagree much more, I think.

The current lineup - base iPad, iPad Air, iPad Pro - makes sense. Standard, better, even better/luxury.
Especially now that there's a 12" iPad Air because previously, the 12" Pro was really driving the upsells.

A base iPad is great and I love mine, but overall, the Air has a couple of features that make me prefer it - laminated display, Apple Pencil 2 support, the overall performance, the Magic Keyboard, display zoom options.
The iPad Pro has a lot of features I don't want or need, plus I can't justify the cost - so: iPad Air.

The naming (considering the iPad Pro is now lighter than the Air), however, does not make sense and as others have said, it should probably be something like iPad, iPad Plus, iPad Pro.

I’m another who disagrees. For some, what you say will be true. But, for me and many others, the value proposition isn’t there with the Pro - particularly when iPadOS still holds us back.

I voted with my wallet today and ordered two Airs - 13-inches and 11-inches - for just over the price of a 13-inch Pro by itself.
