In my imagination
So Mr Skunk, will the new beastie tempt you?

Not at all. Glad to have my Penryn mainly because I don't have to upgrade anytime soon. I wasn't lying in wait for these machines.

But, as many have learned, Apple innovates in their own way and caters to their own ideas of what the industry needs. Better ecology and battery life is great, but I still don't think a built-in battery was the way to go. Imagine an 8 hour battery that could be replaced, and you could essentially have 16 hours worth of pro use with two batteries away from power.

The big Earth trekkers would be dying or that machine.

And I still don't think Apple should be making thinner lighter 17" notebooks. Just a little heavier and thicker and you could have gotten a second scratch HDD in that case. 8GB of RAM is great, along with the dual 2.93 but where is my quad which every other 17" seems to have.

Not upset, just not thrilled. I will of course be waiting for Rev C or Rev B refurbs since I don't need to upgrade just yet.

Apple giveth (matte screen) and Apple taketh away (user-replaceable battery, RAM).

$3000 (after tax) and no quad-core? Get real, Apple. This is a top-class price but not top-class specs in 2009.
