Watching that video of Steve and the store... I miss those days. There was something seemingly magical back then. Even though we inarguably have it better now, it just feels to me like we've also lost something intangible.
The correct word there is accessible. My guess is it’s just a catchphrase to say make them sound good. Maybe they lowered the counters so disabled people in a wheelchair could have better access?
Amazing photos! Those guys in suits walking around looking at Jobs, probably still confident in their heads how ‘terrible an idea’ this is… if so, it’s spectacular how wrong they were! Here's a great Flickr album I found with photos from the press event shortly before grand opening! https://www.flickr.com/photos/joewilcox/albums/72157594234553473View attachment 2200693View attachment 2200694View attachment 2200695View attachment 2200696View attachment 2200697View attachment 2200698View attachment 2200699View attachment 2200700
Some people around here also try to call Tysons Corner part of McLean, which is a little bit of a stretch. But if Hilton can do it...Point of clarification (because I live here), the store and mall are not in Fairfax, Virginia, but Fairfax County, Virginia. The mall, Tysons Corner Center, is in Tysons, Virginia (although sometimes listed as Vienna, Virginia).
Yes, they are going in that spot. I live attached to the Mall and see their placeholder sign often. Some people around here also try to call Tysons Corner part of McLean, which is a little bit of a stretch. But if Hilton can do it...
From the mall map, it appears Apple is going into part of the two-level space vacated by Victoria's Secret when they shrank their square footage. If so, they will have a *much* bigger store than they have now.
Yes absolutely, people do try to claim it's in McLean as well, which is a stretch. McLean/Tysons/Vienna do kind of meld together for most people. Some people around here also try to call Tysons Corner part of McLean, which is a little bit of a stretch. But if Hilton can do it...

Actually, although it probably doesn't matter to anyone outside this area, the Tysons Corner Center (previously Tysons Corner Mall) is pretty much positioned between McLean and Vienna. At one point back in the early days of the mall, if I recall correctly, yes, it actually did have a McLean address, but now for whatever reason maybe it has been switched to Vienna. Probably the Town of Vienna is actually closer technically and geographically speaking. It really doesn't matter: access to the mall is readily available from either side of Rte 123 as well as Rte 7.....not to mention the Beltway and other routes. Some people around here also try to call Tysons Corner part of McLean, which is a little bit of a stretch.
