In order to be able to control iTunes music through ATV when using airtunes you need to go in to iTunes preferences>Advanced and check the box "Allow iTunes control from remote speakers". It is off by default.

Album art is streamed to my ATV as well.

That was it!

Thanks a lot. All's working as described now.

Thanks to everyone on this thread. This could be the clincher for me getting an ATV. I was afraid I'd have to turn the tv on to select music.

Now I can redeploy my Airport Express to a Tivoli radio in the kitchen. Nice.

Goodbye DirecTv. You shouldn't have downgraded the HD package without grandfathering.

My Album art is still not showing??

I've followed your instruction but my Album art is still not showing?? It still shows "Untitled, Unknown Artist, Unknown Album..." and the time bar is not working? I've checked my iTune under File-GetInfo and I do have Album Artwork in place but not showing when streaming..? Is there any other setting I need to check? Thank you.

UPDATE: I hard reset the :apple:TV and now the artwork and song info streams now!

On a side note I just got my :apple:TV earlier today and am loving it!

Yea, I was just going to suggest... If you've checked the box and it's still not working, just restart iTunes and AppleTV, then resync.

Thanks for the help. After I did "Factory Re-set" (tried re-set but sill not working) now my art work and song info finally shows up when streaming from my iTune in my Macbook.

That was a painful "Re-set" since it wiped out all my synced iTune Library with 40G worth of my collection.. ouch..:( .. I'm new with this...still love my new toy..:)

I have a dumb question to ask someone's help.. I have all my iTune Library files stored in my USB External HDD with my Macbbok, how do I hardwired to sync my USB HDD iTune Library files to ATV instead to sync it wirelessly which will take forever? Need step by step instruction if possible, thank you!!

Not exactly sure myself, by I guess you would hardwire (ethernet) the AppleTV to your computer, just as you normally would in pulling files from it's HD. Of course while having your external USB drive connected.

Am I missing something?

i dont know the answer but...

would it not be ideal for apple to turn that secretive usb in the back of the apple tv into an input for a external hard drive such as a usb storage device, an ipod. ec?

many times people come to my house and they want to play a song of their ipod, why cant i be able to just get the wire plug it into the back and browse their ipod. i guess apple thinks that usb at the back can only be used for "technical purposes" ye right.

so let me ask this.....

I have an airport express hooked to my stereo and my imac pushes out music via airtunes. I want an Apple TV and the airtunes functionality is icing on the cake, but what about this.

I have an apple hi-fi boom box. Can I re-deploy my airport express hooked up to the hi-fi? Can I have two airtunes receivers on the same wifi network?

We have an Airport Express in the kitchen and an Apple TV in the living room, and we pipe music over our network to both simultaneously. The only limitation you would have is that the boom box may not have a stereo jack input. If it does, there's nothing stopping you.

To test it is simple: hook your AE up to the box. Stream music from your computer. If it works, you're in business.
