Talk about bringing a thread back to life. Well, now that I have been in the new house for awhile, I have changed my approach to whole house audio. I am moving to the Sonos system since having different music playing in different parts of the house is critical. Also, having the independent volume controls is another plus.

The biggest reason I am dropping the AirTunes route is twofold. 1. I want in ceiling speakers now and need an amp to run them. 2. The Sonos ZP120 has amp and multi room capability.

I plan to hard wire all speakers to the the audio closet and have a Sonos Zone Player for each zone.

I will still keep the ATV's, but only for video. I don't see apple following the Sonos model, but who knows. The only thing that sucks is my Home Theater system speakers cannot be used unless I buy the non-amplified Sonos box (ZP90) which means ATV and Sonos together side x side.

This setup is obviously more expensive, but it is simple (no separate components, just a box and speakers) and offers complete control of everything from my iPhone.

Hi bacaramac,
same experience on my side. At the moment I run ATV for movies and music in my living room. The music I stream to office, kitchen and bed room using my iPhone and my iPod Touch.

All this was very easy to set up and it's working (more or less) fine. What I do not like and why I'm thinking of Sonos is:

1. iTunes library is stored on Time Capsule (which I can not use for streaming directly). With >25k music titles and >150 movies I'm not able to publish everything to ATV - especially as I have pictures on ATV as well. Meaning not all music is available for streaming. That's possible with Sonos.
2. Only one source (ATV) is available for streaming. But I'd like to stream radio / web radio / friends iPod / CD / etc. to different sources at one time. That's possible with Sonos.
3. When I do heavy loads on one of my laptop there's an impact on the steaming. Wouldn't happen with Sonos because of SonosNet.
4. Controlling the streaming with my iPod/iPhone is sometimes slow. Especially speaker control. I need direct noise control and I don't like 'wake-ups'. That's working much better with Sonos I think.
5. I do need amps for all speakers. In Sonos ZP120 an amp is integrated.

However, with Sonos I'm missing:
1. Lyrics
2. Movies

My plan is: ATV for movies in living room, Sonos for music in all rooms (for which I will move my iTunes libraray to NAS).

What do you think? Do you agree to my points?
