Hi everyone, new here. Joined specially to ask a few queries. First some background. Have been a long time apple user. I bought an Iphone X a week ago. Had major eye strain issues... sold it for a huge loss. Could not return it, because here in India Apple does not sell through its own stores. So has different policies.
Now i want to buy an iphone 8 plus 256gb. But am apprehensive after seeing posts about unresponsive touchscreens, random reboots, flash not working in the cold, lag and some even complaining about yellow and dim displays compared to 6 and 7 plus. Thought the display uniformity issues would be only regarding the X as Apple should have perfected the lcd display by now.

Anyways after reading a lot here and on other forums, it has become difficult for me to sort out what is a hardware issue and what can be fixed through software. I am ready to persevere through a few ios versions but the thing i am scared of is hardware issues as the service centre experience here is not as troublefree as US.
I request all iphone 8 and 8 plus users to please chime in with their views regarding the issues I have mentioned and their experience so far with their sets. Have any of these issues been solved by later ios updates? What all issues remain now?
Any help and opinions are greatly appreciated guys...

Don’t forget, for every complaint/fault reported here, there’s 10,000 people who haven’t had any hardware issues.

Not saying the complaints/faults aren’t real - years ago I had an iPad Mini screen that was corrupted out of the box, these things happen - but who takes the time to post about working hardware?

If this forum was anything to go by, the entire world hates iOS11 and more iPhone X owners are unhappy and dissatisfied than there are happy iPhone X owners.

Whenever any item is mass produced in billions, you’re bound to find issues, be it hardware or software. I’m at 8 Plus owner and am more than satisfied / happy with its performance both in terms of hardware and software.

Some people get too bothered with occasional frame drops in iOS. Personally, I couldn’t care less. But that’s a subjective opinion and on iOS 11 you will definitely see frame drops from time to time.

Other than that you just have to try your luck with the device. The best advice I can give is to open the box at the store where you buy it from and set it up right there to verify any obvious hardware quirks if returning is a big problem in your country.

If you want to be theoretical, even if you were to experience any of those issues you listed in your post, that's what warranties and return periods are for. No one can guarantee you will have a perfect device, that's just the risk you take with any piece of technology you purchase.

I owned the iPhone 7 Plus and it was a good phone. The iPhone 8 Plus is so much better though. I have not experienced a single issue with it and I consider myself an "intense" user.

Thanks guys for the opinions. Could somebody with 8 or 8 plus verify if they had one of the issues mentioned and which later got corrected by ios updates. At least we could cross something off our growing list.

Bought an X. 3 days later, dust inside the camera housing. Even though I have a perfect functioning 7+, I got an 8+ and couldn't be happier. Love the slight improvements, especially wireless charging. Screen is big and beautiful and like the 7+ was the most beautiful screen I've seen. I'm 54 and my old eyes appreciate the big screen. The 8+ is very fast and the speakers are louder than the 7+.

One thing I've noted is a couple cases marketed fo 7+/8+ in fact do NOT fit the 8+. Currently trying to find my favorite case. I even had Apple store put on a Belkin InvisiGlass Ultra screen protector one time in the store, on impulse. I've never had a screen protector before except the plastic ones built into some cases like Lifeproof and Otter Box.

Short version: no issues whatsoever. Extremely happy with the 8+.

I had an 8 and then got the X. Had absolutely no issues. My wife also has the 8, again, not had any issues. I'm actually surprised you mentioned so many problems with the 8; never heard of them before.
All these issues are very real and easily searchable via google and have read about many of them here on Mac rumours too.

May well be. People are morel likely to report negative experiences as opposed to positive ones. But as already mentioned, this is the exception and most units are of course without any issues. Hope you manage to find one and be happy with it :)

I'm curious as to why you had eye strain issues with the X? Are you sure you wouldn't have similar issues with the 8 or 8+? Have you had similar issues with other iPhones?

My 8+ is basically flawless except for an IOS reboot issue

I had eye strain with X due to pwm used by Apple in the oled display. There is a lengthy thread about it here. Many people experiencing the same. Also have an iphone user since long. No such issues on the normal lcd display.
My question is whether all the members above have the same iOS reboot issue you mention. Is really an iOS issue or affecting certain units?

I run into an occasional issue when I am using the phone and I get a dark screen and the "rotating tire" busy signal in grey. It tends to last 15 or 20 seconds, then returns to the home screen. It hasn't become enough of an issue for me to take the phone in, but I haven't noticed it on prior models. It's either IOS11 or the phone, I assume it is iOS11 but not sure. Otherwise the hardware is flawless.

I wasn't aware of the eye strain issue

My daughter had the yellow tint issue a quick trip to the Apple store in the uk and it was swapped for a new one. No hassle they just swapped it took 20 mins in and out

Seems that most people only come here to complain, that's why you hear about these "issues".

My 8 Plus is fine.

Just got my 8 plus after giving up on finding an X with a uniformed display. Disappointed to find that I can feel a raised edge while holding phone around the whole band. Surely this should be smooth and feel seamless? The front feels fine.

I think it may be the plastic gasket between the glass and the metal band on the back? Or the metal band is not perfectly centered? Or the back glass is sunk slightly? Either way it doesn't feel great after using my super smooth 7 plus.

That said the 8 plus is blazing fast and I'm enjoying the truetone. It's just I like to rock my phones naked so the edge is annoying me enough to consider going to store to check floor models and maybe swap. But going to a shopping centre this close to Christmas will be hell!
