re: MMS for iPhone
I was just thinking about this the other day.
A friend of mine sent me an MMS message for the first time, and of course, I was redirected to that horrible AT&T web page where I had to log in with a random login ID and password they texted me, to view the image (that was then not even downloadable on my PC without doing a screen capture first, since right-click to save was disabled!).
Then I needed to send them a photo back, again via MMS (since their computer was broken and all they had was a phone that had no email with attachment functionality).
I wound up using a free web site offering the capability. (There are several out there if you Google for "free MMS".)
So then, I started thinking: What about somebody building an iPhone app that sends and receives MMS messages using this round-about method? Maybe it could present users with a friendly front-end, allowing selection of a photo from the phone to send, etc. - but actually just fills in the proper things on the above-mentioned web site, to let *it* do the actual delivery of the MMS message? And to "receive" them, have it auto log you into AT&T's site where they're supposed to be received, but find a way to "scrape the web page HTML" to pull the media content you desire and paste it back into the phone's photo storage?
Doable??
Not possible in the App Store unless Apple themselves makes it.
