You can pick it up in stores on the first, and i read something about how they ship them out and have ups hold them so they dont get delivered before the 2nd, but u would probably get it the 2nd
Saturday?
And people who have it shipped have to wait until Monday?
This is going to be a point of contention.
There are going to be conflicting reports on this, and when exactly people are going to get these.
If I had to guess from the wording of the press release, if you pre-order to your home you won't get it until Monday 4/5 or after. If you pre-order for store pickup, they'll let you get it at a store on the release date 4/3. This way they can still gain some free publicity and extra store traffic (which will help to sell more accessories while you are at the store), but not deal with the full blown camping and long lines.
I think it's kind of a compromise solution between convenience for people who don't want to go to the store and wanting to generate more hype. Otherwise why choose a Saturday for release, they could just as easily have picked Friday or Monday and they could make sure pre-orders were received at home without any special Saturday delivery to worry about.

They could have just picked Saturday because they didn't want to the bad PR of going into the second week of April when everyone was waiting for last week in March. Saturday was probably the furthest they felt they could push it back without the later date becoming story.
Are people forgetting that kids have school monday-friday. But Saturday kids will be able to be inl line for them. Unlike the iphone anyone can get one you don't have to be 18 Or aproved for A&tt contract
From what I remember at the time of the 3GS launch, there was a separate line for those who had preordered. Those folks had a different process than the ones who were waiting in line who had not preordered. I doubt that any 3GS box had anyone's name on it, but probably each of those people stated that they'd preordered a 3GS and provided their name and the capacity of the iPhone they'd ordered. A box would have been retrieved from perhaps a separate place (?) and handed to them. This was very early in the day, of course I don't know if someone who arrived at the Apple store much later that day -- say, late afternoon or evening -- who had preordered with an arrangement for store pickup was able to leave the store with the box containing the prize......
I would think that some similar process would be put in place for the iPad launch, as again Apple will know how many units in each capacity will have been preordered for a given store and will ensure that those units are provided, as well as of course having (we hope) a plentiful supply of each capacity available for the folks who arrive at 5:00 AM and who are in line......

That sounds familiar. Did they get let in early too, or was that just ATT?
This is a great way for Apple to manage inventory because it's can predict individual store demand. It's just disconcerting not having a box with your name on it.
So, what you're saying is look for anyone under 18 as they're carrying a lot of cash. Got it.![]()
I kind of think that's not the primary reason for a Saturday.
NO idea of how Apple handled the financial arrangements, whether or not the credit card had already been charged or if it was charged at the point of sale in the store when the person was standing there in front of an Apple employee stating that he or she had a pre-ordered 3GS.....
