Just a quick question: Would you partition your hard drive more than 32GB for windows xp sp2, if you are going to do Rhino, 3D Max, AutoCad etc...? Thanks.
Hey,
To those using 3DS Max; I'm assuming you're using it for rendering. You should definately check out Maxwell for lighting, much better than VIZ (and 3DS Max).
To those using SketchUp, I would highly advise using it for quick visual ideas, but I wouldn't spend too much time in it, there are better modeling programs out there, Rhino being one, and AutoCad's 3D. (Basically, after a while, you'll notice that SketchUp has a "look" to it that's easy to pick out).
powermac_daddy: MArch3? perhaps MArchII ?

Also, thanks for the advice about Maxwell, I just recently got 3ds MAX to try and learn this year. I have always used Rhino, then just rendered using Flamingo, which isn't bad, but I want to learn other programs being used by other design firms.
Try using the Maxwellrender plugin in Rhino. It works great and the renderings are astonishing Maxwell has a reputation for being a slooow renderer but if you leave it to render overnight it isn't so bad. Just not an animation renderer.
Have you heard about the Rhino 3D port to Mac OS X? Great news!
I partitioned mine at 32GB, so I could use the FAT system to be able to transfer files between the two hard drive. That is plenty of space to have those three programs and saves, but I would recommend getting an external hard drive. You can get them fairly cheap and take them with you to another computer if needed.
I partitioned mine at 60GB. I have a 120 GB and 500 GB external HD. I don't know if 60G is too much? Perhaps I should do this again for 32GB?
